The simply fact that the freely-rotating wheels represent a disconnect in the kinematics between the treadmill and the air-propelled plane means that no equation can exist between the treadmill and the plane. Wheels will be spinning at NX, it doesn't matter and isn't valid. No longitudinal force can be exerted on the plane through the interface of the wheels.

Anyone still in this argument is only in it for the joy of rhetoric. I also notice you're now using "car" which is a further tangent moving away from the actual myth.

We were talking about a car, and that the treadmill moves in relation to the vehicle, not its wheels.... but thanks for being there for me.

Regarding the plane, if the treadmill is tied to the speed of the wheels they would both be rotating at the speed of light rather quickly (assuming there is no drag/friction at all.) At that point the wheels would need to rotate greater than the speed of light (c+Takeoff speed) for the plane to take off, which is impossible.....

I said "car" because the little discussion Tipp, Focus and I are having is a about a...wait for it...car. Focus postulated a tangential argument that even a car would move forward on the treadmill if the treadmill speed was not pegged to the wheel speed (i.e. treadmill speed = speedo reading), but instead pegged to vehicle speed (i.e. via some kind of radar gun setup). Tipp disagreed, but I agree with focus and presented an argument to Tipp that was apparently convincing as he seems to have eaten his crow and gone to pout in the corner like a nancy boy ( ;) ). If you would like some further explanation of why I think the car will move, please let me know.

Also, Mythbusters will prove nothing, as what you've moved into now are theoretical discussions about the treadmill speed having to move toward inifinite speeds to apply force against something that will not react to force in that axis.

You watch - they're positing (unlike the OP) that the treadmill speed is tied to the wheel speed, not vehicle movement. Therefore if the wheels rotate at x the treadmill rotates at -x. Since the propeller/jet moves the plane independently of the treadmill (as has been shown ad nauseam) the wheels and Treadmill will rotate nearly instantly at the speed of light...

What's weird is that the posed environment has absolute friction between the wheels and treadmill, but 0 friction in the bearings.
