Not too sweet, not too hot, and basically a 50/50 pour with tequila. If you don’t want to make your own, but still want it to taste good.
Haven't heard of it, but that actually sounds pretty good! You should come up with a name. I love tiki inspired drinks during summer time. Speaking of which, it's time to finally pick up some rum and gin for the season. One of my favorites for the summer is one of the most simple. I freeze giant 2" cubes of good quality coconut water, like the pink stuff from Harmless Harvest. Then simply pour a good aged rum over it. As the ice melts the flavor gets more coconuty and it's really refreshing on a hot evening. My go-to rum has been El Dorado 12 year. Holy crap this stuff is good for the money. Like $30 and it's about as good as anything I've had in the rum category.Quote:

Hell yes, rum talk in the padded room. Buy a couple bottles to compare and contrast, the cost of entry is too low not to. Jamaican rums are my personal go to, Smith & Cross is sublime for ~$30, great in Kingston Negronis for something more booze forward or painkillers for pure boat drink vibes. Rum neat or on the rocks never really does it for me, but toss a squeeze of lime and maybe a sugar cube in with a pour from a nice bottle and I don’t know how you can hate it. Coconut water ice cubes is a great idea in the same vein, gotta give that a try.

Start with a bottle of Wray and Nephew over proof white. It's cheap as hell, widely available, and makes the finest daiquiri you'll ever taste. Once you've got that down, you can head in a couple different directions.
Want something more like whiskey - a sipper? Try a bottle of The Real McCoy or Appleton 12. Something sweeter? Diplomatico! Something just as funky fresh but with a different flavor profile? Neisson Agricole Blanc. Smoother/more honey and less funk? Go for an aged Bacardi like their 8 year or try a 5 year aged plantation. DO NOT MISS OUT on the Plantation Pineapple bottle, either!
Once you have a decent library, pick up the book Minimalist Tiki, grab some fun fruit juices, and let the real party start. Nothing like drinking zombies and painkillers in the summer.

The Bacardi 8 is also good. Funny thing is I used to kind of hate on Bacardi as a brand (cuz I only had their cheap stuff like my friends). I was wrong. I've since learned they make some fantastic rums too for really not that much money.
