That Trek has a pretty anemic battery and motor. But it is a light all mountain emtb, top end build, on discount.
Regulator looks like a short travel Repeater.

Regulator CX is basically a Santa Cruz Vala, but a couple grand cheaper with better build kit. It has a bit less adjustment, and from personal experience the finish/tolerances/paint won't be as good, but it should be a damn good bike.

well yeah but some people are into that whole mid-power thing, personaly I want 85nm's and I don't see the point in midpower but what do I know
I think the end loser should know what they are buying, if a bike is discounted 5k I gotta wonder if the buying public is not that into midpower enough to buy them ?
Fazua Ride 60 range extender coming out Q2 so is the rumor... but then again it was promised Q2 last year...
I just talked to the owner of my local shop who's a SC dealer - he said the range extender and the 480 battery were supposed to be out in Jan but got pushed back a little bit more. He said it should be really soon now. He said dealers will be able to get them as upgrade kits from the bike brands.
My understanding is the 480 is a built in only option. If you have a removable, it won't work?
on a bike with an easy to swap battery i would just get another battery to carry in my pack as oposed to a range extender, ime 600 + watts of battery has been enough to ride 3 or 4 hrs on low speed single track but of course YMMV
No idea, I have a Heckler SL which has the fixed battery. I've degraded mine 4% over a year from fully draining it nearly every ride so I was going to get it plus the RE, and not use the RE all the time.
The annoying thing with REs from everyone I've talked to who has one on different systems (Bosch, Specialized) is that they drain concurrently with main battery, not before. So you can't throw one on, drain it first over a lap or two, then ditch it in the truck / bushes and ride out a lighter bike. One guy said his work around is to stash his in the bushes a number of miles in, then use it on his way out back to the car.
Specialized RE drains first in my limited experience (Kenevo SL). Dunno how other brands or Fazua will work.
Relay has a 430wh removable battery. Yes, I could get a second one, find some waterproof bag, and strap it to the downtube maybe (don't smash it or boom!). Carrying a 5# battery in my packpack sounds less enticing since first of all I almost never wear a backpack and rarely a hippack (I strap shit to my bike frame). Even on a hip pack meh. That is why a RE is good, although sometimes that then displaces water. IME I've needed an extra 10-30% of range, not double. So the 480 or a RE is what I need...</p>
A back pack is not an issue on a full power Eeb IME, so I can carry lots of stuff including a silky Big Boy 7/24 which handles most blowdown Immediately without a power saw 630 watts of battery is enough for 3 or 4 hrs and then its time for a beer so IME the battery size has got big enough to do at least a whole ride
I want full power with range extender capability. I'm fine with the built in battery. I've ridden with full size 650w batteries in a pack and it doesn't cary well, and replacing it is a pain in the ass. Having a couple range extenders that ride well in the pack and attach to the bike like a water bottle would work better for me.
My local rides work fine with the OE battery, even with it's considerable degradation over 5 years. But when we're in Italy, ebikes are all about maximum range. I think the built in batteries are nice and sleek and definitely save weight, but ideally I'd have something that I can pull the battery out of and travel overseas with, then rent a battery or two at my destination. Or just buy one there and keep it with friends.
I only ride with a pack if I'm doing race support or trail work (it might have an e-chainsaw).
I probably have a role for both a RE and a second battery

I think comparing Vala to new Bullit is like comparing the old heckler to the old Bullit,
I believe SC wanted to ditch the Shimano motor for the Bosch and the only way to physiclay do it was get rid of VPP suspension ?
I supose the thing to look for from SC is will be the acoustic models where you are not trying to cram a motor/ battery have also ditched the VPP ?
My bullit is 4 yrs old with 5500 low speed kms and its great I just replace the usual consumables, no plans to upgrade as long as the EP8 keeps churning

22.4 kilo is 49.3835467294 lbs, not that I think its going to make much difference at 50-ish lbs but SC claimed 49.75 on the old bullit and I got 52+ on my bathroom scale so Did anybody actualy weigh the new Bullit ? I like the mullet, tire choice is same as old Bullit which is good IMO, I like the control panel on the toptube the power switch on the BB on v1 is a bit of a pain, curious if the battery comes out easily, also how it handles compared to v1 Bullit, it seemed like there were more Hecklers than v1 Bullits out there ? So apparently the switch to 4 bar is to get away from the Shimano motor so It will be interesting to see if SC makes the acoustic bikes still with VPP or starts going to 4 bar, I heard of a whole lot of E010 error codes I am meh on the EP8 but mine is still going strong after 4 yrs and 5500 kms I really like the old VPP v1 bullit
Got my eyes on a Regulator CX as a knee replacement treat to myself this summer, how much would I regret not getting the XT build? The suspension and brake upgrade looks to be significant, neither one is going to make the wife happy but she knows it's coming.
I have a pro account through work so the difference between the two is less than 1400 so I could stretch to the XT or get off 'easy' on the Deore build.
I just got the lowest spec SRAM build on my Bullit IMO 85nms covers a lot of sins IME
@ticketchecker - brakes and suspension are what matter most on these things. I think the step-up for the brakes and suspension between those builds is easily worth the $1,400, let alone much better wheels. If your wallet can manage it, I think it's a no brainer to go with the XT.

Shimano brakes are all pretty even in power(see "Dale Stone youtube" brake reviews). The better suspension is noticeable but the low end suspension is basically top stuff from 2ish years ago and emtb make low end suspension feel pretty damn good. Weight will do that. Of course the better suspension is better though. Who cares about shifting on an emtb. You shift probably 60-70% less with a motor assist. For wheels i prefer the ride of aluminium but maybe the new carbon wheels are more forgiving, idk. My add ons are bigger 220 rotors for my 12 year old saints(now on their 4th bike but my slx and xt brakes felt the same), higher rise quality bar, a stem length i prefer, conti tires and push on/glued renthal grips

I find if it costs more it's usually better, really about how hard to open the wallet and I'm not one to fiddle with suspension much. Aaand now they're out of MD frames in both builds now, the Deore was the only one ready to ship so the urgency is gone.
Remains to be seen if pricing will change when they get replacement stock.
On the new Bullit the difference betweeen High & low spec is 6 K
On my v1 Bullit the cheaper NX steel cogs were a lot less $$$ to replace also super fast shifting doesnt really matter with 85NM's and besides i can only shift one gear at a time on the SRAM product,
from what i see the up spec model had the Fox fork instead of the ZEB fork and the shock will often be the same, a cheaper SDG tellis dropper which goes up and down reliably is cheap n easy to rebuild

Wife has been on a small Levo and it’s always felt a half size too big. She’s been on Giant, Cube, Ibis, and Orbea with similar reports.

proportionally for a 5'1 person, a 350w motor with a 450w boost is a full power ebike
Maybe the case for a hardcore XC motivated rider who loves laying down power and spinning like a sewing machine.
But for someone who wants to chillax and let a full power emtb grind you uphill the way god intended, a weak unit is all disappointment.
Wife demoed the Orbea weak Ebike last summer. She was literally getting dropped by our friend on his analog bike while she was in turbo. That’s not happening again.

you have to test SL vs full power with the same person and it will show SL is slower except now you have 3 classes of bike n rider that are incompatible acoustic/ SL/ full power the OSO in that link had styling that never really took off so they might be had for cheap somewhere ?
Thats the new oso. Looks good IMO. Lots of nice details. Can be long stroked too ,170r 190f, and best standover in class. Decent price too

Quoting still broken for me through website. In answer to your question, when buying a used ebike (especially Shimano based one), you need to essentially add $1,200 to the price to cover potential motor replacement. I say especially Shimano because they've made them unrepairable if stuff goes wrong, and as second owner you get no warranty and would be buying a new motor if it dies.
My Bullit shit the bed after 4 yrs 5600 kms with the dreaded E01022 code its unfortunalte cuz maintenance was all up to date so I think the the bike would have gone the whole season with no repairs Its nothing a sharp visa card can't fix so cha-ching picked up a new Vala
edit: so is anybody in Canada interested in a used but not abused 2020 Bullit with a bad motor other wise its in petty good shape including the battery, or any ideas on price ?
Figured the motor is the wild card on used. If he’s telling the truth the ad says 27 miles on it, I know the shop he bought it from and can see what they know about it. From reading old reviews that Shimano motor was outdated when this bike was new.
Does it compare somewhat with a current SL bike?
Just got laid off so e-bike budget could be slashed below buying new outside of my pro account with Transition. They have plenty of stock in Regulator SX’s but I think the CX is really what I want. Could also grab the cheaper SX and see what things look like price wise when the next batch of tarriffed CX’s come in at.
