Re: Audi reliability; the Audis that fall in your price range will unfortunately fall into that “expensive to maintain and will be prone to major service issues”. So will every Volvo, Mercedes, BMW and other decent wagon manufacturer.
That said. All of those brands have come a long long way and all make completely reliable wagons these days. (Audi is what, #6 on most reliable brands from Consumer Reports?)
Personal story, I’ve got a late model Allroad that I drive the balls off of. It’s better in most ways than the XC70 T6 is replaced. It’s more reliable for one. Regular shit, that’s it.

To nothing I’m looking at Regal TourX and all that free cash they have em. Low interest loan and your 5k down is like pennies for a fully loaded new wagon that doesn’t seem to suck.
Just looked on Autotrader. Seems like there are a bunch of 2019's for sale and just a couple of 2020's. I guess they killed production on the 2020's. The 2019s are not discounted enough in my opinion. I would need $15k off MSRP to consider.Quote:

The reason I said maybe is because I don't know what the pricing, terms, and availability of dieselgate wagons would be in Canada. South of the border it's a no-brainer. Two of my friends did pretty well with Jetta/Golf wagons, and my parents got a crazy amount of cash to keep their Touareg, plus the extended warranty.
If you live in an area that uses salt, forget about the Mazda6 wagon. Rust is a big issue on them.
Otherwise 07-08 are the models are to get. Bonus points for a manual.

I fixed the rear air struts on the E500 plus new ballast on one HID and a new pulleys and belt set. $1700. Seems reasonable. Runs a lot smoother with the new pulley. 172k miles.

The local VW dealer offered to buy back my wife's problematic VW Alltrack so we jumped on it and its gone. It was fun, capable wagon but we were tired of constantly bringing it back to the dealer and getting warranty repairs.
