I live in a similarly mild clime, with summer time highs usually capping out in the mid-80s and temperatures cooling to the 50s or 60s at night. This summer has been unusual in that the nighttime lows are much more likely to hover in the upper 60s or 70s.
With that, and with my oldest moving into the attic bedroom, which gets pretty warm, I finally caved on a portable AC. After a few hot nights when she was at her moms, figured what the hell and hauled it into my bedroom... and it was glorious. Add working from home into the mix and I have 3 of them, now, though they are only run fairly infrequently when it gets much above 80 and doesn’t cool at night, and even then just a few hours/day.
I hear you on adding to the problem and I’ve resisted for the last two decades, but it’s been pretty fantastic and those summer nights are more enjoyable for a whole variety of reasons when you don’t have to lay on top of the sheets at least 18” apart all night.
