Electric Bike Thread

I use boost on tech climbs. Thats mostly on the moto enduro trails or steep wet roots. I like the wet rooty trails when its raining. Soo fun and you have the trail to yourself.The motor has a little more overun in boost mode so you can pause you're spin a bit to avoid pedal strikes on roots and the motor overuns a couple of seconds and pushes you over the part you might pedal strike. Its fun to play with that and time the overun like you would a pedal stroke. Super tech whether flat or uphill on a regular bike where i would drop my seat an inchish , on the emtb with the motor , and it being more tech capable, ill drop the seat 2+ inches for full mobility. Yesterday the rain stopped an hourish before dark so i used boost up the highway to the trail to save light then "trail" on the trail. No eco because i wasnt worried about battery. Trail is very intuitive and natural feeling. Generally the goal is to use eco mode whenever i can to conserve battery. I end up using trail most often because it works more off the tourque sensor and your leg input.
Id recommend trying boost a short bit only to see whats capable but the best would be to conserve the battery and get a longer ride in to see what theyre capable of.

There’s no one slower or more disingenuous than you in this thread.

Even if I was a fan of ebikes, I would be willing to acknowledge that they have a motor and are electric mopeds. Your failure to do so says something about your character and belies some subconscious guilt when it comes to your ebike zealotry.

I dont care what you call them. Obviously they have a motor and pedals. I just laugh at your stupidity when you throw the moped thing around for a reaction. I couldnt care less. Call it what you will. It does nothing to further a conversation. It just shows your ignorance. Call it a moped and it ends there for you. No discussion of any issue. Thats because there is no issue. Environmental angle has been put to bed because batteries can be rebuilt/recycled and as many motoXers as mtbers are now on them , so less fuel is burnt between trucks and motoX. Not to mention the added health for older people or peoole with onjury/illness that wouldnt otgerwose be out on bikes.Trail conflict has been put to bed by the evidence of them being used across the world and the fact that moto enduro ride on similar trails with the ability to go much faster yet are not running into each other, trail access has only expanded as mtb grows and the numbers grow and trail associations became a thing with all the growth. They couldnt control rogue building so the powers tgat be had to accept mtb and rightly so.Its not a stretch to say that emtb brings even more riders and that that will translate into more trails and more access. Thats exactly whats happened tgus far.Its always been a bumpy road but there is no big movement that would suggest anything else.
The only arguement you have left is using the emtb arguement to tell us how you dont need an emtb because your so amazing. "Look at my strava!! I dont need no stinking emtb!! Im top ten on strava!! I’m not really concerned about the environmental issue, don’t use strava and I’ve never owned a bike computer.

I don’t want ebikes to use non motorized trails. I don’t care if they use the hundreds of miles of single track that’s legal to use around.

Hardly triggered although i get bored of supplying facts to the discussion when yours and others answer is "ebikes are mopeds" . No shit sherlock. They have a motor and they have pedals. At that point its like arguing with the dumbest kid in the room. Its akin to someone saying "all lives matter" in the blm protest. Well no shit. Its so obvious it doesnt need mentioning and has no bearing on the facts of the issue. Why would you not want them on non motorized trails if there is no issue and theyre not bothering you? It seems like your arguement is over simplified there too. Previous to pedal assist it was ez to distinguish user groups between motorized and non motorized. A class1 pedal assist is so close to an mtb and miles away from a motox/enduro and the proven fact that mtb and emtb can co mingle without issue if ideology is taken out of ths picture, i ask again why would you ban them if those facts are true?

It was a pretty good day, 63 years on this rock, got to play some golf with a fellow old guy and was matched with 2 other old folks. We laughed a lot.

Took the Norco VLTE for a spin this am. I rode the east side of Hyalite around and above the Moser trailhead. The area is designated motorized restricted and has a bunch of moto and non moto trails, anything from +48" to < 20" single track and is a mix of moto legacy trails and grown over logging roads, purpose built ATV trail and horse trails weaving through the woods. Lots of 1-3 mile sections to piece together.

Yeah, I guess I can see the appeal. But its not want I want out of a bike ride right now. I do a 3 hr ride, cover 20+- miles and at the end I am tired. I am happy with that kind of a ride. It was fun, particularly on the rolling terrain where you can actually hold a cadence where normally on a P-bike I would be recovering and kind of slow.

It was pretty heavy on the downhills but that extra weight smoothed out some of the stutter out of the trail.

When I make my comments to the USFS is will be along the lines of, yeah, e-bikes are here and like all motorized recreation they deserve access to public lands. They are not and should not be confused with Mountain Bikes and human powered locomotion.:biggrin:

I'll give you props for gathering facts. It does take more than one ride to really see all the potential , good or bad. And probably a month of continuous riding to adjust to the weight. It takes WC dh racers a year or more to come to grips with a new dh bike and get back to where they were in the standings a lot of the time. I had an idea from my research but not nearly as much of n idea as i thought. I discovered a lot of things after getting one.
I put around half million vertical feet in off the gondi on my emtb after i blew the motor. So stable at bike park speed. Loose corners are no problem. It just sticks. Saved to replace my mtb and figured i'd jump right on it and be pulling uo over every jump. I got so used to the emtb weight my not light 37lb enduro bike seemed super light and sketchy. Took a couple weeks to get fully comfortable on it. Emtb is back in action and took a few days to adjust. I think with both on rotation now i can flip back and forth. I really only want sub 35lbs because ill be climbing without assist. I think with assist a 42lb modern geo bike can be thrown around and be able to give it a big yank when needed and still have that planted feel in the corners and added stability at speed. Suspension works so good with the weight through stutter bumps

Haaa, that'd be entertaining. He wasnt a bad guy just got a little too serious in here. I had some good pm's with him. He was amicable. Probably fun to share a ride and an apres beer. Im betting he hates the eeb though, maybe not.

Well its certainly much better than having zero experience and dictating what people should or shouldnt be doing. I did a lot of research and have a fair bit of wxperience and i still discovered a ton of data points after actually riding one for a couple months. Why don't you try one, like really try one for a proper shake down, preferably a few days? Long rides on various terrain so your reaching for technics to get through a ride. The strengths and weaknesses tend to show at that point. Besides , it'll be fun. Anyone gives you flack you can say you just want to have a formed opinion but are undecided. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts good or bad , especially if you would set aside any bias(spelling? We all have some bias but u know what i mean)
