I made it up Saturday for the my first turns of the season. Everything is skiing fine up top, but it's a little nerve wracking getting down the lower mountain. C'mon Ullr!
The top is fine, the bottom is the opposite. If the kids force me to go up again before we get more snow, I am likely downloading.
On the plus side it was raining at the base when i left today.
Made some Xmas Eve turns at the Bowl yesterday. The top has good coverage with just a few sharks showing in the high traffic areas. The lower mountain is low tide. Downloading on Griz is still an option and advised for anyone not on rock boards.
Fun day at the bowl today. Upper half of West Ridge was awesome.
Went 3 days in a row. I'm beat. Hope it keeps snowing!
The road was so bad though! Truck in front of me went off the side. I stopped and got out to make sure they were ok, (the road was almost too slick to stand on) then gave them a ride to the gas station where the passenger's vehicle was parked and so driver would have signal to call AAA. So if you saw a tan older Tundra off the side, know that the occupants and maybe even the truck itself are ok.
Yikes. Probably would have been me if they weren't right ahead of me!
Is the road being sanded less or is it just a matter of temps? Because it wasn't great when I was headed up late morning, either.
Also, is brush cutting on the marker runs just too much to ask? How about not leaving a giant log pile and several downed trees in Far East? Wtf is my ever increasing pass price paying for? It sure doesn't come with much. At least things are shaping up now. Fun in the pow!
Yeah, road has been bad due to snow line being at about the saddle. On way down today I pulled off to let tailgater behind pass and he lost it into ditch side on next curve.
^ satisfying. I get tailgated daily. Ppl are garbage
Really good today. Horrendous traffic jam coming down right now though.
Sounds like a multi car clusterfuck, 32 deg and slick no gravel anywhere
Iron Horse says, thanks Pat!

The lack of plowing/sanding fucking sucks this year. We go up early for our kids' programs and it is just a skating rink, and we then see the plow heading down around 9:15...sometimes. They used to sand early in the morning. I cannot fathom why they stopped.
it's just a guess, but I'd say they are cutting back on plowing/sanding to save money?
.
As a long time snowbowl skier I used to think this, but ultimately I believe it to just be carelessness/neglect, perhaps occasionally masked by cost savings.
After last night's debacle they were sanding uphill at 9am today, and had already dumped a bunch downhill.
Like most ski hills, and especially here, they know they have a monopoly and a growing population in need of skiing. We keep saying thank you can I have another. At the end of the day you just have to laugh. That said I think constant pressure on the forest service is the only way to possibly force them to improve operations, and that's a reach.

Yeah, I'm going with they don't care. Fuel is cheap right now. Can't possibly cost that much to run. Maybe worried if something breaks on ancient equipment couldn't get parts, ha.
Who was up there today, it must have been sweet
Why do you think they call them “Pats Bumps”?
They ain’t there because of love.
There's two factors here I think. Give is shit is #1. #2 is the fucking POS's that the use to deliver the high quality sand. Near as I can tell the trucks they use can't cover much of the length of road, both in volume and the spread. The spreader was purchased from Amazon I think and only spits out a few pieces of sand at a time and also only has a width of approximately 6 inches. This means they must have to make about 19 trips back in forth to make any notable difference.
The good news is I hear they will be upgrading to this next year, the Gravelicious 3000.

Brad mentioned they are paid to sand that road. Must be some arrangement with the county. I think it was mostly the temps fucking with the road. Maybe they also had some equipment failure. Road was fine Monday.
If enough cars crash on it, the broken bits of plastic, metal, and glass will provide traction.
Not if they all go off the side.
On the way home today I was noticing a lot of fresh sand and good traction on the road. Then saw two trucks putting down sand. Then saw someone who had managed to put themselves really far into the ditch.
Nice up top but zero visibilty. Then just gets pretty bad lower down.
The road has been better, but the drivers are still retarded. Please learn to use low gear. Or just get out of the way when there are 5 cars close behind you.
Anyway, I'll see you tomorrow.

I had fun. And some good soup.
It really wanted to be a good day up there. 6-8” new of really light pow up top. Over very chunky crust most places. Lavelle skied nicely. Bowls were tough.

Going to be skiing the Bowl Friday afternoon with my griz daughter. Red and black Flylow coat, brown pants.
