Update: Jewels is rallying. From certain death 12 days ago to almost normal but for the skin condition. We took her to UPenn Vet hospital this afternoon to see a skin specialist. Well worth the trip. Fortunately we got him to surgery fast enough. Got him back home today.
Sore but in for a full recovery. Would've sucked to lose him at three.

It hit him hard. Dry heaving and gagging constantly. Then his stomach swelled. I knew it was really bad. If it happens you will know.
After surgery they couldn't get him to drink or eat at the Vet.
He almost pulled me through a window, to get out of that place.
As soon as he got home, he drank a ton of water, took a big leak, and crashed hard. Woke up and ate some boiled chicken and rice and some pain killers. Back down.
He is a powerful animal, and should come back even stronger. He also has clips in his stomach, that keeps it in place now.

Nice work. We lost a large male Saint a few years back to this. Fwiw, if anyone has this issue and thinks they won't make it to the vet in time, we were later told that a length of tubing fished down the throat and into the stomach may relieve some of the gases and buy one some time. Idk how likely that would be to work, but our guy was so out of it at the end that it wouldn't have caused additional discomfort. On the other hand, he made it to 11, which was about 8 years longer than anyone expected from that fat Miami rescue. Great dogs, wonder if I can find a picture of Rupert...Quote:

So no cancer, Invasive Lipoma. Which is a tumor that grows below the skin and in bad areas. Thus they can never get it all, and it has a high reacuurence rate. Lots of stitches, drainage etc and more bills.

Lost an absolute angel today, and I'm so heartbroken over it.
Dixie, our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel decided today was the day to go back to heaven and that her fight was over. About 6 months ago she was diagnosed with Cushing's and had an accompanying pneumonia that nearly took her. She rallied, but somehow developed kidney failure these past two weeks and had too big of a hill to climb. You'd never know it though as her spirit, bright eyes, and ever-wagging tail were as constant as ever.
I never thought I'd ever love a little dog period, nevermind to the extent that I loved her. It took my wife 2 years to find her, and I'm so glad she did because Dixie was perfect. So much fight, birding, and spirit all wrapped in a constant desire for love and cuddles. Truly the sweetest dog I've ever known.
We will miss you girl, and are lives are so much darker without you.

My bro in-law had the same experience with his KC. When my sister got it he laughed it off as a chick dog. Now it's 'his' dog. Man he loves that thing. Great little dog.
Old dog is off to the vet tomorrow to have another bloody lump on his throat checked out...
