Although still reeling from my unwarranted attack on Djoko (and wondering if I have been wrong the whole time about his fakery....), I will add to Fomofo's comment that it was not only interesting, but saw some pretty good tennis on the parts of both. Nice to see Alcarez get another slam under his belt.
Quite enjoyed the ladies doubles final. I don't generally watch a bunch of doubles, but as a fading old tennis player I do find myself playing more so getting some good tennis strategy can't hurt. I have to say I was cheering for the Italians (and in particular Paolini, because I am also a midget).

I like Fritz but he was just overmatched today. Maybe if he could have gotten more serves in... I agree with what McEnroe said after the match, that Ben Shelton is the America with the biggest upside. But still, quite an accomplishment by Fritz. And Sinner's pretty good, all props to him.
Yeah, Sinner was not to be denied today. But, I did think it odd that Fritz tried all day to beat him on the baseline. No energy to come in and pressure him at the net? Didn't help Taylor that his first serve basically abandoned him. I did manage to catch a fair bit of the open this year (on tv) and quite enjoyed Paolini's run. One of the most entertaining matches for me was a first round match between her and Andrescu.

Nick Kyrgios exits the AO in the first round, denying fans worldwide of his hilarious temper tantrums for the next two weeks.
Also, Djoker takes 4 sets to get over to the 2nd round? Maybe its just me, but he seems closer to the cliff than ever.

It's been forever and then some since I can recall that happening in a Major.
Some things however to still be the same, like Djoker having beef with someone in the media and then making it a sideshow that he invariably ends up being the victim of. I hope Alcaraz makes quick work of him.

Just watched the Alcaraz/Hurkacz semi from Rotterdam. Possibly one of the best 3 setters I've seen in a decade if not 2. If Alcaraz plays like that against Djoko (or anyone for that matter) next time he will destroy. Good on Hubie for giving Carlos a run.

I stopped following along on my phone at the pool when I saw Sinner go up 2-0. Whoops! Sounds like I missed an all timer.
Yeah, I'd say so. Down 3 5, love 40 and 2 sets down. Carlos fends off 3 match points to comeback. That alone would have made it all-time. What stood out to me though was the power and shot-making of them both on that big a stage. Seriously I see no one beating these guys when they're in their game, and when they're playing each other... Well, magic.

Super untimely post due to TGR mobile access denied, because well 2025 TGRz. Anyway I know many of you have been waiting for this sooo without further ado - quick rundown of Wimbledon from my little pea brain. Amazing parity in both mens and womens pro tennis these days (with the exception of Alcaraz/Sinner on the mens side) as illustrated by the large numbers of seeds knocked out of the early rounds. I thought it was interesting that the game on grass has evolved such that serve and volley is not predominant any more on the surface and is used only sparingly by players. To me it looks like players are serve and volleying as much on clay as on hard courts or grass. Another thing I noticed is that the women overall are really starting to crush the ball during most rallies. Serve speeds are up and the ladies are crushing ground strokes nearly as strong/fast as men. Still, I feel that any man in the top 500 would beat the top woman. I found it interesting that there are now women players on tour suggesting that perhaps the ladies start playing best of 5 sets in finals (I suppose part of this given the totally unentertaining 6-0 6-0 drubbing of Anisimova).For me, one of the tragedies of the tournament was Dmitrov blowing a pec while 2 sets up and in the drivers seat against Sinner. Poor guy and his injury ridden career. Ive watched him play a couple of times live and love his game. I think this may have been his shot (possibly his last shot) at making a final of a slam. Really too bad for the guy he seems like a really likeable dude and hes a gutsy and skilled player. The final was pretty fucking anticlimactic with Sinner bringing his A game and Carlos not. Great to see this rivalry continue though, it seems to push both players to improve and to be honest if Carlos had won I would have ranked him higher (in my head at least) than Sinner. Yeah, I know the ATP ranking would have still had Sinner on top. Although I look forward to the US open, I will likely miss most, if not all of the televised matches. On the road visiting grandkids.
