I'm guessing we were in 60-70 mph winds on buffalo. Fucking brutal, was getting blown backwards on my skins. Once we started skiing, I had to really dig my edges in and lean way into the wind to keep from getting blown away.

as the great P.H. would say, "everyone discounts those 2-4 inches in town, but it snows more up high, and you keep getting those little storms and they all add up to alot, one after another"

Half inch on the basin webcam, edges are blown to bevel. Still windy eh? When’s that tapering down a notch?
Inch on the vail stake but picnic tables look blown bare.
I've never it so bare at this time of year in Telluride.
We won't make it closing day in 6 days at this point. Seriously, the snow is gone at the lift bases in town.
I've lived here most of my life and it's not uncommon to close with a 60"+ base. This year... mud and slush and warm temps.
I read yesterday that Taos had 78" on the season.
Windy AF last night in Summit and Vail Valley. No snow in Avon this am. and snow on the cams was up high and probably blow into the trees.
Trying to keep a good attitude this season, but definitely feeling the pull towards the bike. We just don't have enough base to really sustain any good spring BC skiing. That and I have a feeling with all this SW flow, we won't see overnight temps below freezing very much. Things could still change and dump in April, but it's looking far less likely by the day.
Highlands got 6" last night and Sunday is looking like it could be good.Quote:

Fun morning ripping the groomers with a few inches fresh. Not bad at all.
This season hasn’t been great but I’ve skied more days than I have in any season before and I’ve skied more pow than 2010 / 2011 because of my work schedule. Things could be worse
Its pretty striking how quickly the low elevations are melting, but I bet up high and north there will be plenty of good skiing through May. There's not much way to build low elevation base this time of year, so I think that ship has sailed.
I think the saving grace this season has been how many of the medium-small storms occurred on weekends. Very little midweek FOMO, but basically nothing but great weekend skiing since xmas.

Couple of laps of athletic skiing in the Bowl and some late day ripping of groomers with the FIS racers.
I have a bunch of 1/2 price vouchers for lifts and/ or lessons.
Closing day party has a lot of potential. But don’t drive. The Castle Creek Bridge project has traffic slowed at peak times.

CAIC models are blowing up. Forecast through midnight Sunday is 25-30" from Vail pass east to the divide. 2-3 in/hr around midnight Saturday.
CAIC point forecast for Vail Mountain is a measly foot.
As for the dust, FUCK THAT NOISE.
Isn't this going to mess up the mountain biking trails?
