Pretty sure you can rent a metal detector at the bigger equipment rental places. Should be no problem finding that ski with a detector.

I’ve actually tried this on two separate occasions for submarined skis. It can definitely work if you know the exact area you are searching. But the more snow loading you get the less effective it is.
Both times I had no luck, in-part due to the heavy snowfall that occurred overnight. One showed up from a Good Samaritan, the other had to wait until the spring to be retrieved.
Huskydoc if you're going to post in this thread, you are expected to outrun your sluff :fmicon:
Seriously though, glad you are okay.
Do you think the slabbiness built up quickly after that morning's control work had been done, or was it stacking all night?
Glad you're OK HD, hopefully the ski will turn up, not much snow forecast in the next 3 days.
That nose slabs a lot from windhammering both from North and South. I'll bet control work didn't budge it.
Might be for the better. That other side meshes into the Gondy line and becomes impassable at times as folks are queuing, stepping out and stepping into their skis, for the two different lifts
And no surprise that a snow starved season drew weekday crowds for the first round of good conditions. Hopefully the chill keeps lines tempered this weekend
my instagram stories have some videos of today:

in short: it was the best day I've ever had at crystal
I guess everyone assumed C6 would be a delayed opening and went to the GV black hole, or they vanished, or something. I have no idea. I got 6 or 7 *literal* ski on laps on C6 before I had to stop in the corral. Still got 3 more before an actual line accumulated around 1030 or so. Every lap was shin to thigh deep blower and I crossed maybe like ten tracks that weren't mine in all those laps?
Went and did a powder bowl to bear pits run (p-bowl still good, bear pits pretty scraped out) and did an Exterminator run to look for Huskydoc's missing ski… which I did not find) it was pretty shralped but a few good turns were had. Warmed up at campbell and then hiked the throne for two more still very good laps since the line had migrated indoors due to the cold (I guess?)
It was pretty dang cold and it seemed like the heat in campbell lodge wasn't working well as the air vents were blowing cool air.
Anyway, an all time great crystal day
Was my daughters first night of mid-week race training at West last night. I only have an uphill pass for Summit so I skinned a couple of laps and it was some deep night pow for sure.

Hwy 2 backcountry was ridiculous past couple days, got a few runs in on thursday at Yodelin probably some of the better runs I've skied (highway closure probably helped too). Left a part way skin track for someone to use at the clear cuts on henry creek, had to bail because of light. Hoping the cold keeps the crowds away tomorrowhttps://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...Hg&oe=65C98856
Today was the coldest day I’ve been backcountry skiing. It was -8 at the car and -10 much of the day near Stevens. We wore absurd amounts of clothing on the uphill and downhill, mostly staying warm, except for my toes which took a long time to warm back up. Slow motion, slow gliding frigid powder felt like Hokkaido. Beautiful day.

Anyone want a GoPro Hero 3? It’s about 8-9yrs old and works fine. Pickup in Snoqualmie or can possibly meet at Alpental. Free. Don’t want to ship.
Edit. Taken.

Didn't even make it to 6am before I90 closed. Sounds like this storm is kicking into high gear. My street was an ice skating rink in Issaquah. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...d07098e754.jpg
Pass open but now school is canceled complicating my intended rally up.

props to Crystal patrol and ops for keeping Southback open C6 spinning despite absolutely nuking snowfall and 60 mph gusts on the upper mountain
let's see if this video embed works?

dunno why embed doesn't work, but here's a vid from today's empty mountain pow skiing: https://i.imgur.com/Kp1wlrg.mp4
Hearing reports of all of today's snow fracturing down to yesterday's layer on all aspects be safe

there was a crown a couple feet high in the middle of Appliance Store off the King this morning at Crystal
and that was before the crazy winds and nuking snowfall
That was there this weekend as well and likely the cause for South being closed for an extended period of time.
Pretty good crown across most of Employee housing as well
Made it to Stevens with my youngest today. NWAC and the snow report were showing NIL to 2” accumulation. We found boot deep cold-smoke everywhere, even some stashed of knee to thigh deep if you knew where to look. Wild Katz laps were deep and ongoing snow made for free refills. Didn’t get above single digit temps all day. Reminded me of skiing in LCC Got caught in the pass closure and didn’t get to home until about 7:30. My boy said this was the best day of skiing he ever had. Definitely one of my best at Stevens quality-wise.
Talked to someone in the main plaza carrying some Heritage Labs fatties, but didn’t catch a name. Figured it might be one of you kooks.

Wednesday was a day of days for a predicted drought year.
Left my job around turkey day and have been sniping most of the actual workers for the good storm/pow days when I can. The final fuck you that keeps giving
So while I’ve skied Crystal multiple times before, I’ve never once braved a weekend day. How F’ed are? We’re coming from Oly area.
Friends tried to shralp Snoqualmie yesterday and had to turn around from the traffic.

Its busy and degree of crowds is drastically related to conditions. This weekend doesn’t look like it’ll be too crazy up there.
Moody day up high.

Refrozen mashed potato mank up high, increasingly decent spring mush as you went lower. Looking a bit sporty around the base area though- bunch of bare spots opening up from running water and brown streaks showing up like a pair of old whitey tighties.

Already posted this in the Kastle thread yesterday but was able to edit and add some music. New Xmas gift GoPro. Fun to play around with, think I need a wider lens though.
