Must be something about winters in Syracuse. One of my fraternity brothers who was Muslim and wasn't very good at handling his alcohol would frequently do things when drunk that you would just shake your head and go I don't believe he tried doing that let alone got away it. One of those things was nearly getting arrested by the Syracuse police but as he was getting thrown into a police paddy wagon he began to fight with the officer and knocked the cop out. He then ran and got away before any of the other officers saw what happened.Quote:

When I was a squirrelly little monkey boy I used just get the subaru on dirt or snow and punch it heading north toward Big Bay. There's so many roads in the woods up there they have no clue where you're coming out and you can lose a caprice classic pretty fucking fast in a subaru on logging roads. I'd go for it if I knew I could get to dusty/snowy roads fast enough that they wouldn't get my plate #. If you replaced every time I got away with a speeding ticket or loud exhaust, or DUI/MIP, or reckless driving I would probably have lost my license forever.Quote:

Heh. I ran once. Ran a red light w/a cop at the intersection (w/ booze on me breath). There were a couple cars in front of him so I made it 3 blocks before the blues & reds started after me. I juked down a 1/2 block into an alley, then back up to the main road for a couple blocks, into another alley, down another main drag, through another red light and parked at the bar I was headed to with this carload of chicks. Elapsed time about 3 minutes
At 2:00 I came out of the bar and there he was, parked in a lot across the street trying to be all staked out. I walked right past my ride up around the corner and thumbed a ride w/some of the people leaving the bar (it was a pretty good sized group of us). I even managed to get one of the girls home w/me. I waited until about noon the next day so the lunch hour would give me some cover. I know they had my plate#, and my little blue '82 3 door subie had all this red, orange and yellow detail striping on it, the only one in town. I never did hear anything about it though.
I won't judge Nobis, cuz what's the point. I do hope he comes out of it all-right.
One of my bros got charged w/DUI when a waitress called the cops (on the guy he was with - not me) John lit out of there and the waitress pointed out his taillights for the cops as they pulled into the lot. They got him, but his lawyer got him off with nothing for lack of probable cause, since a Denny's waittress isn't trained to spot drunk drivers. They didn't follow him and look for erratic driving, just nabbed him on the word of the lady. I picked him up at the shop that night. He was pretty funny.

Actually, let me rephrase that. I don't have a problem with police. It's the ones that ego trip and act like Nazis when they pull you over. There are two types of cops. The ones that try to stop people from hurting themselves and others and the ones who think that because they have a badge that they can do whatever they want.
I'll give you an example. I had a friend who was enrolled in the police academy and got pulled over by one of the later type of police. The officer then began to illegally search the car. Since my buddy was studying the rules, he started sighting which rules in the police manual the officer was violating. Well this pissed the cop off and gave him some trumped up charge. Well to make a long story short, let's just say the arresting officers captain had the officer send my friend a written letter of apology.
I'm just glad none of them gave me a ticket yesterday because the Mass. State police were out in full force yesterday.

I don't think its just winters. A friend and his buddies (all drunk) were being chased by a sheriff just south of syracuse, they got one turn ahead of him and drove into a cornfield (late august-really tall corn) drove for awhile through the tall corn, then ditched the car and found a road. They walked to a bar, called for a ride and got the car the next day. This happened in the early '80s. I don't know if you could pull that off today with all the technology the police have-they'd probably call in a helicopter.Quote:
