Finally got some Naxos and mounted them on my Kingswood Mid-fats. Plain and simple they rule. Skied them inbounds on a pretty firm day at A-basin last week and they officially get the burly award. Was hitting that small huck in Falcon at mach loony and getting up to 20 feet of air onto fairly hard snow and they acted like my all metal 977s....bomber.
Toured on them today and they killed. 6000 times better than sloprides in all categories.

Are those this year's NX21s or the NX01s?

The VRS's are pretty bulletproof as well.
Still not as good as fritschis as far as torsional stiffness....when inside edge is pressured, outside rail 'foot' lifts off the ski. But that's only noticable on hardpack which I know you don't ski:wink: Glad to see they are bomber though...
not that i charge or ski nearly as hard as some folks on here, but Ive been happy with the dozen or so days Ive put on my nx01s from last year. Im skiing them in AT boots as well, so take that fwiw. Skis are 186LPs and skier is 5'10 170.
Unless you're really hard on your gear, I wouldnt worry about them.
Like phish, I also appreciate that they ski very similar to normal alpine bindings and dont have a massive stack.
I've watched Ptavv rail his NX01's on his VCTs, and huck with them as well. I would think they could do pretty well. Somebody posted a thread with pics of a broken heelpiece last season though.
I've only been on my NX01s for one day in-bounds at Jane and like them so-far. I had an unfortunate insta-tele in some tight trees when an unseen branch on a log caught the release lever. All ended up well, though, after a couple hairy turns to a stop.

Yup. I have been skiing with this year's NX21 on groomers and bc since before X'mas. Absolutely bomber.

I had naxo's that I skied the resort and bc with and it was very noticable to me (I like to rail turns and feel g's), luckily I broke them (heelpiece) and got my money back.

so lets see, youre taking a binding that is not specifically designed to do something, and it ends up doing it well. sounds pretty good to me.
do you feel that the few mm of binding compliance is really hindering your performance and ability to ski those lines with confidence? Id imagine that you're also skiing these bindings in stiff alpine boots, and thus, all the forces are concentrated at the binding, rather than more equally shared when you have a more compliant AT boot. Yet again, something the binding isnt really designed and optimized for.
Personally, I think both bindings ski well. I prefer the naxo simply because its got a lower stack height and it doesnt make me feel 7 feet tall. While the fritschi may be more rigid in the ski\binding interface, I can almost garuntee you that the boot\binding interface is not as rigid as it is with the naxo due to the design of the toes. There are compromises with each design.
anyway, just thought id bring up these points. thanks for being honest with us as well though. I just see it being very hard to make a reasonable weight touring binding that is as rigid as an alpine binding. At minimum it would need a fixture at the heel and under the foot to anchor the rail(s).

I don't even notice my Naxo21's. I stomp in and ride whatever I want and my skis stay attached to my feet just as they are supposed to. I have not noticed anything about them when I ride hardpack, powder, groomers, and small hucks. I cannot tell the difference between these bindings and any other binding I've ever used (in as far as downhill performance). I've even taken some bad falls this year and came out of my bindings exactly when I would have wanted to. They tour wonderfully and are easy to switch between downhilll and tour with my ski pole. I don't know what people are talking about with the whole "torsional rigidity" thing. I'm 6'2" 185lbs and ride fast and hard with my din at 10 and I can't tell the difference between these and my solly's from last year. I don't think I'll ever use normal bindings again!!
Ditto Meng, Nx21's are the shizzle. No doubt about it. This is my second year on them and my brother is on his second year patrolling on them. I took the lock mechanism off mine for easier touring (one less step to touring mode). i personally like the lock mechanism. Probably just because i feel like it adds an extra level of saftey, but it probably doesnt do that much.
I can't remember where I saw it, but it seemed some peeps were complaining about the lack of height on the elevator at the highest setting when touring. Any truth?
the pivot bolt housings can wear down and cause some slop in the toepiece. With the extra play, one of my pivot bolts sheared.Quote:

BCA did me right and replaced the toe pieces. this removed the slop up front, but things are a little loose where the rails fit into the tailpiece.

This little gap allows for some torsional play - that's probably what cold_smoke is talking about. I've haven't been back to BCA to see if they have a fix.
