I ski in Kryptons and xwave10's. My ankles are jacked, and they both hurt really bad in these boots, but moreso in the Kryptons. I really like the way the Kryptons ski, so I want to mod them to make them work. My pain comes from the instep side of both of my ankles. Can I stretch or make this ankle pocket bigger?
How would I do that? Thanks.
Liner trimming/padding is the only thing I know of but I'm no bootfitter

Insteps are hard to mod for, but you might want to try heating the plastic where the lower buckles are and placing some shims (ie., like wood blocks and stuff) to push out the shell.
Sounds like you pronate and the weighting and unweighting in side the boot is creating ankle slop on the inside ankle pocket. Getting your foot neutral(inner verus or arch posting) would help this.
Even if you have footbeds, pack out in boots ( especially towards the back/heel of the lower cuff) will create abrasion in the inner ankle on pronaters.

Posted orthotics like Amfit or Superfeet will give you the solid foundation.
Then from there, depending on how everything lines up, you can either punch the inside ankle on the shell, or pad above the ankle using a high density foam rubber glued to the outside of the liner.

I get the same shit. My ankles pronate badly from my high arch. I thought my Tecnicas were packed out, and I guess they were, albeit prematurely. My arch was collapsing and driving the ball of my inner ankle into the shell. It was fucking killing me, I thought I was going to develop a palsy. I bought some new Salomon X-Waves and after a short while, the same problem developed.
I had some custom cork footbeds made and it's helped somewhat, but I have realized I that they still don't provide enough arch support, so I'm going to have some new ones made. That or I take matters into my own hands with some spray foam.

I'd say either cork footbeds that are flat or any of the kind that start flat but end rounded to contour your foot but make sure to have them posted under your arch and around the inside of your heels.

is that real? anyway. other than a footbed, i believe there is enough shell there in the kryptons for the ankle-pocket to be ground out. look at just the shell and the shallow ankle pocket it has, it almost looks like it's supposed to be ground out. is this what you were talking about? or the top of your instep?
Second this! I just got a set of these in my new X Wave 10's. Skied them for the first time today. No pain in my usual hot spots. I was skiing on 10 year old customs foot beds.Quote:
