    Need boot modification advice

I ski in Kryptons and xwave10's. My ankles are jacked, and they both hurt really bad in these boots, but moreso in the Kryptons. I really like the way the Kryptons ski, so I want to mod them to make them work. My pain comes from the instep side of both of my ankles. Can I stretch or make this ankle pocket bigger?
How would I do that? Thanks.

As a former bootfiter, I suggest this...

Do you ahve a footbed? If not and don't want to spend the $$ for a custom one, get a pair of superfeet

Insteps are hard to mod for, but you might want to try heating the plastic where the lower buckles are and placing some shims (ie., like wood blocks and stuff) to push out the shell.

Sounds like you pronate and the weighting and unweighting in side the boot is creating ankle slop on the inside ankle pocket. Getting your foot neutral(inner verus or arch posting) would help this.
Even if you have footbeds, pack out in boots ( especially towards the back/heel of the lower cuff) will create abrasion in the inner ankle on pronaters.
    Just throwing it out there.

Footbeds and an intuition liner. Asuming shell fit is correct.

    good luck.

Yo dude. I did this to my kryptons and it worked.

Try grinding your bootboards a bit to give you more room. So basically take some material off on the side that you put your foot on (so it's still flat). If you can drop you foot a bit in the boot, you may have a bit more room. I actually did this with mine.

    Do it...

Posted orthotics like Amfit or Superfeet will give you the solid foundation.

Then from there, depending on how everything lines up, you can either punch the inside ankle on the shell, or pad above the ankle using a high density foam rubber glued to the outside of the liner.
I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just gonna ask them where they're goin' and hook up with 'em later.

Go see Jeff Bergeron at Boot Fixation in Breck...he is the Maestro. I have heinous ankle bones and they are both happy little campers after seeing him.

I always get confused... is the bootfitter Jeff Bergeron the Breck Town Council Jeff Bergeron or the Biff America Jeff Bergeron?

Either way, he has a renowned rep as a boot fitter. jeff@bootfixation.com

I get the same shit. My ankles pronate badly from my high arch. I thought my Tecnicas were packed out, and I guess they were, albeit prematurely. My arch was collapsing and driving the ball of my inner ankle into the shell. It was fucking killing me, I thought I was going to develop a palsy. I bought some new Salomon X-Waves and after a short while, the same problem developed.

I had some custom cork footbeds made and it's helped somewhat, but I have realized I that they still don't provide enough arch support, so I'm going to have some new ones made. That or I take matters into my own hands with some spray foam.

the boot fitter is the town council guy. I was wondering the same thing the other day until someone set me straight.

I guess Biff only does the RSN gig.

I'd say either cork footbeds that are flat or any of the kind that start flat but end rounded to contour your foot but make sure to have them posted under your arch and around the inside of your heels.

If you already have those, try Z's advice.

is that real? anyway. other than a footbed, i believe there is enough shell there in the kryptons for the ankle-pocket to be ground out. look at just the shell and the shallow ankle pocket it has, it almost looks like it's supposed to be ground out. is this what you were talking about? or the top of your instep?
    No longer stuck.

x2...my wife developed a similar issue and that was the route recommended by our local boot gurus...worked like a charm.

Yup. He also has a very unique way of shaping the shell to fit the foot if grinding is not enough. Grinding and footbeds never work for my ankle bones but, his shell molding technique fixed it in a few minutes.
