How the heck do I get rid of these? I've got two of them that are empty enough that they don't produce a hot-enough flame to sweat pipes with, but still have some propane left in them. Throwing them in the trash seems like a very bad idea, unsafe for sure and probably illegal.
Throw them in the campfire.

Around here most of the stations that fill have an expired tank graveyard somewhere near the filling site. Another thought is to drill a hole put in a airhose chuck and use it for portable compressed air. Make sure you get all the gas out first.
Yenta, L7, I'm pretty sure he's asking about the small 1L torch bottles, not the 5 gal. BBQ tanks.

A gas grill can be 'cued well with if you use wood chips. Ask me how I know.
