Petition to Volkl

Ok, the idea here is to gather support for a specific ski from Volkl. I intend to send a link to this thread to Volkl after it has gathered (if it does) sufficient signatures. Please sign this/support it if you agree. Petition below:

To Whom it May Concern;
We, the undersigned, would like to express our interest in new version of the Explosiv. We would like an explosiv with a true twin tip, but the rest of the ski remaining similar if not the same. You could offer this new ski relatively easily because it would not require a very different mold from the current Explosiv. Obviously, this new ski would not be a park/pipe ski but the twin tip would rather be intended for more big mountain purposes. Although this new ski may seem to overlap with your current fat twin ski, the Gotama, we believe that a market exists for this stiffer, beefier twin because there are sufficient numbers of skiers who want a twin tip that is both fat and stiff enough for steeps and big faces. Thank you for considering our offer.

Yeah and ask 'em where I can find the umlaut on my keyboard. ENOUGH skis get past me on ebay cos of that fuggen umlaut.

Why do you want the twin? Just trying to figure out what purpose it serves outside of skiing backwards. Unless of course you want to ski "big mountain" type lines backwards. And if so, that would be sweet. ;)

landing backwards occaisonally, sliding backwards w/o slamming the tips into junk and getting them caught, extra versatility. the twin tip doesn't have any disadvantages (OK, yes it reduces the edge length... but just make the ski longer)

I have a feeling the decision to go flat had something to do with releasing the Gotama. Marketing reasons.

I wouldn't mind a half twin on the sploder for ocasional switch landings and skidding around.

By "up" I'm assuming you mean Mammoth.

I'm supposed to go over MLK weekend, but really it all depends on the snow since paying $62 to ski ice isn't all that appealing.

Two points:

I always thought that a twin does have a significant disadvantage for a "big mountain" ski. The curled up tip of a ski creates lift. Having a twin creates lift behind you which you do not want (think the opposite of a swallowtail.)

Also, isn't the 4FRNT MSP close to what you are looking for (122x92x108 and reputed to be quite stiff in a 185...)

Or the DB Surreal (124x94x112 in a 193 and a 184?)

I think it would create a slight down force, sort of like the spoiler on a race car. But, let's face it, a ski isn't a wing and these forces aren't going to be huge unless you're going about 80 mph.

I don't know much about the 4FRNT... i'll do a search. I asked about the Armada ARV on techtalk but haven't gotten a response yet.

I have scratch BCs now, and I want something with the stiffness, burliness, and durability of the explosiv (sick and tired of the floppiness of the bc)

Also I'm no physics guru but the fact your legs are in the way there would be no downforce due to the air being broken up before reaching the skis surface

If you want something stiff, burly and durable, 4FRNT MSP is definately the way to go. They are very stiff because of the maple core they use, have a 2 year warrenty and are very burly. Not to mention it's a great company and I helped make this year's stock of 170s :)

Where do you ride? I'm not sure how they compare to the xploders since i've never skied on those. but if not the MSPs aren't the stiffest twin tip out there, they are definitely one of them.
