blown edge!!!! HELP!!! S.O.S.

OK I need some help here. I hit something today skiing with the Mrs. and blew about 2.5 -3 inches of my edge out right under my boot. There is no core shot and the edge is not broken, just pulled out. I can't tell how badly it is bent right now either.

So what can be done to save these skis? I can't afford to buy new gear right now and I have a trip to BC at the end of Feb. (main reason I can't buy new skis)

Does anyone have any good repair techniques? I kind of remember a thread about his on the Powder side but I was not able to find it. HELP PLEASE!!!

To repair you'll probably have to cut out the section of bent edge and do an edge replacement. Probably best to have a good shop do it. Pricey, but cheaper than new planks. What kinda skis? If it's a vertical sidewall it's much easier to fix than say a dualtec or cap (Rossi, Volkl, Atomic, etc)

Cut the base material out, you'll need a section a bit bigger than the edge damage. Lightly heat the area with a heat gun and lightly tap the edge back into place. The tricky part is alligning it back straight. Tape is a good way to guide the edge, lay tape on the base where you think the edge should follow and push back to this line. Get a feww edge screws(tiny phillips and predrill holes and then drill in and follow with epoxy. Wait 24 hrs, dremel out epoxy, and clean the now exposed base, base weld and then stonegrind back to flat.


Or if tools are unavailable, tap back into place, epoxy, wait 24 hrs, and file out the flared base material.

Thanks for the info. There is a good shop in Stowe that I would trust. Today's Edge, on the mountain road. I'll see what they can do, sounds a bit out of my league or confidence level. Thanks again.

Splat, I just want to see the step by step Stanley edge replacement, I definitely get the idea but would love to see the finished product. How'd Dex take it?

I asked the shop about putting a Stanley door hinge in there to replace my edge and the guy looked at me like I had three head, can you imagine I mean really you think that a good shop like that would be up to date with the latest maggot repair technology. I'm taking my ski someplace else.

LOL. I'm waiting to hook up with cracker to get a ski he's gonna let me mutilate with a hinge, at which time I hope to have hardrider photograph the whole thing step by step. The Spud clued me in on this down in Las Lenas. He was skiing a pair he did. Said shop guys couldn't compute it at all.

People react the same as they did when TeleRob and I did a step by step in Powder on using Tbolts to anchor ripped out tele toe pieces. The thought of drilling through the top and out the bases was kinda freaky. It weakened the skis, but once the toe ripped out, the ski was toast anyway. It was also presented as a b/c solution to get out if way out there on one ski.

This would be a great BC add to the pack, you could feasibly do the entire repair with a lether man if one end of the edge broke.

T-bolts have saved a few folks I know for getting them thru the seasosn on a pair that was otehrwise shitcanned. Last resort, but it works.
