Great book, I've read it. Jill is one of two of probably the most knowledgeable avy experts in the country if not the world. Co-author of Snowsense: that little avy guidebook we've all hopefully read. Snowstruck chronicles her 20+ years in Alaska, she has amazing stories. Nice lady too. I'll be there.
She's in Sea-town tomorrow and Sunday. I've read Snowstruck too. Good stories. A lot of the "guide" books tell you to beware human factors. This book will clue you in on what exact a "human" factor is. It's also a damn good read.

Is it much different (aside from including, oh, the past 20 years) from the Snowy Torrents series? Reading the Amazon blurb I can't tell how much it's accident evaluation, avy guidebook or exploratry crap.

It's not a guide book, it's more like a memoir of her life experiences working with avy's. It's a compilation of stories basically, a chronicle if you will. She's a great storyteller. It's a great book to read, because it really makes the aftermath of avalanches (digging, death, evaluation) real.Quote:

Jill is a captivating storyteller and a great writer, as well as one of the most knowledgeable persons around when it comes to avalanches and snowpack analysis. Snowy Torrents is boring reading, like a government report. Jill`s writing contains wit and humor and brings the reader into the story. Go hear her if you get the chance.
