I'm leaving

No, not from here... Tomorrow, I'm moving from the place I've lived all 23 years of my life, really it's one of the nicest places in southern Minnesota. Eating breakfast while the sun rose over a hill across the lake was great. Waterskiing, wakeboarding, and fishing whenever I wanted were not bad things to grow up with.

Ironically, one of the largest goals of my life up to this point (get the hell out of MN) is going to turn out to be one of the most bittersweet. I'm the first person of my immediate or extended family to leave the area in a long time, so I have no family outside of MN and North Dakota. I'm also leaving behind the best skiing and biking partner that anyone could ever hope to have (my brother). I'm excited about the future, but for some reason, I thought that leaving would be much easier than it's turning out to be...

Enough sappy crap... If any NY/NE mags want bike, drink or both, let me know.

heh... Forgot to mention that I guess. I'm going to be about 75 miles north of NYC, same place I was before.

I'm fascinated to know who'll join you for bike-drinking. Pics please.

Perhaps that would be a bad combination.... Maybe biking followed by drinking would be a smarter choice.

Dude this is kick ass! The thing is man you got sack. Half the people I know don't have the balls to pack it up and experience new things. This will be a great experience for you. And if it don't like it you can always go back.

Going to NY? You're moving the wrong way! I was in MN for 7 years (5 for school, 2 for work). I picked up a couple good friends, one pro skier/company founder best friend, and a wife and moved to the WEST coast. Life is a lot better after the move. :biggrin:

But the most important question is where will you be skiing this year? Stowe, Smuggs, P-kill?

Let me know when you're ready. I'm off Tuesday and Sunday and ride both days. I also usually have a bike in the city on Monday and Wenesday if you wanna come down there and play.

New Paltz is close, and a fantastic town and outdoorsy place. Climb the Gunks, do some high speed mountain biking at Minnewaska, lots of cool road riding on both sides of the river. GREAT friggin restaurants in the area, because the Culinary Institute is right there. Try the Would Bar in New Paltz.

Did the same thing 11 years ago. Only it was for college. I moved up to the SF Bay Area for school and ended up staying there for work. My entire family still lives in SoCal and I left some amazing friends behind. I'd be lying if I said I don't miss them a lot. After years in the Bay Area, the same thing happened when I moved to Tahoe. There are some great friends I have there too. And now I have a job here, and will settle for a while. Sure I miss hanging out with all the people I left behind, but they're the kind of friends that you just don't lose. Even if you flake on each other and don't talk for 6 months, you can call up and it's like the day you left. No "Long time no see," "What new in your life," "Are you married," high school reunion bs. Just "Let's go out and have a beer." Ya know?

My best advice is to stay in touch. I haven't always been good about that, and I've learned how important it is.

New places lead to new adventures and new friends though. So soak it up and have fun in the new digs. I've found that it's not about the place; it's about the people you meet.

Not sure, most likely either Stowe or Smuggs.... Was thinking Stowe, but since Bill doesn't like skiing anymore and the price difference, I'm not sure.
