Ok all you "experienced" maggots (62 and over). The National Park Service will be bumping the price of the lifetime Senior Pass to $80 on August 28th. Up until that time, the lifetime pass costs a whoppin' $10.00 - that's the cost of two lattes.

It's always been that way. Back in my college climbing day we always hit the entrance to Yosemite when we knew it would would be unstaffed. We couldn't afford the $3 entry fee.

There are plenty of National Parks and Monuments that don't charge at all. The national parks are set up on a sliding scale with the most popular charging the most to substitize the least popular. Only the most popular entry points have booths and those booths aren't always manned. Glacier National Park has plenty of entry points that don't charge/have a booth. Probably around 10 years ago there was a people counter on the trail from spingdale to the zion visitor center (where you catch the bus for the rest of the canyon).
