PSA: National Park Service Senior Pass Prices Increasing on August 28th

Ok all you "experienced" maggots (62 and over). The National Park Service will be bumping the price of the lifetime Senior Pass to $80 on August 28th. Up until that time, the lifetime pass costs a whoppin' $10.00 - that's the cost of two lattes.

    Details are here: https://www.nps.gov/planyourvisit/pa...P_JUMP_5088578

And, that's the replacement cost if you lose your old pass, too, so, keep it safe.

I'm 13-1/2 months away from shelling out my $80 for my ATB pass. $80 is still a bargain in the PNW, where a NW FS pass costs $40/year. My bud recently got in under the line.

My in-laws got theirs a couple years back. They've used it plenty since then. At $10 it was basically free. At $80 it's still an outstanding deal.

I was looking forward to getting old just so I can get a $10 pass. Fuck that, I'm stayin' young.

I think you also get 1/2 price camping with the pass.

Was just at a National Monument (NPS) with my parents and we did not pay to get in.
What are you guys talking about? I've always heard (and then finally experienced) that old people and everyone else in the car get in free.
Also, there's this back way into Glacier...
    No longer stuck.

To quote Eubie Blake: "If I knew I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself" (always thought it was attributed to Pete Townsend or Mickey Mantle).

The pass deal is so good, that I almost feel guilty taking advantage of it - what with the funding problems the National Park Service has been having the past few years.

Yeah, I think The parks are so understaffed that the entry booths have nobody there a lot of times. I entered Arches this March three times with nobody manning the booth, twice before 8am and once after 5.

It's always been that way. Back in my college climbing day we always hit the entrance to Yosemite when we knew it would would be unstaffed. We couldn't afford the $3 entry fee.

Yup. East Coast Bunny is slow on the uptake. The stations were unmanned when we drove through Yellowstone NP last Friday night on our return from the Beartooths. No biggie cuz one of our guys had an annual pass.

Our buds in a second car hit a bison.

There are plenty of National Parks and Monuments that don't charge at all. The national parks are set up on a sliding scale with the most popular charging the most to substitize the least popular. Only the most popular entry points have booths and those booths aren't always manned. Glacier National Park has plenty of entry points that don't charge/have a booth. Probably around 10 years ago there was a people counter on the trail from spingdale to the zion visitor center (where you catch the bus for the rest of the canyon). I'm pretty sure NPS knows about the loopholes.

Oh right. I haven't been there in summer for a long time. I was thinking spring skiing season.
