So what's the deal with putting a black hood on a car that, other than that, is a different color? Is it more "core" for the car to look cobbled together or what?

If it's legit, it's a carbon fiber hood, which saves some weight.
But on lots of rice, it's probably just painted black to make it look like a cf hood from a distance.
Can't you paint a carbon fiber hood? Of course, if you did, people wouldn't know you have a cf hood, then you'd lose those gnar points :)
I hate "ricers", what ever happened to people tricking out American Muscle?!?
Found this online ripping on Rice Burners... Enjoy
You might be a rice boy if..
You have more exhaust decibels than your engine has horsepower.
You have aftermarket FRONT wheels for racing but stock rear wheels.
Your engine makes twice as much horsepower as torque.
17" rims up front, 13" out back on your FWD.
You ever painted your wheels to match the same color of your car.
You put your automatic car in neutral at every stoplight in order to roll it back and try to fool other people into thinking you have a manual transmission
DuPont gave up trying to figure out the shade you were asking for.
Your mod list includes stereo equipment, shifter handle, MOMO steering wheel, PIA driving lights, exhaust tip, but no REAL engine parts.
A chameleon lizard undergoes fewer shade changes than your custom paint scheme.
Your rims and tires are so large, that you have to install the tire / wheel from underneath the car because it simply won't fit in the wheel well going in from the side.
The dealer laughs when you bring your car back in for service under warranty, and you've only had it 6 months...
Your tires / rims stick out from the lip of your car by more than 1".
Your paint job is from the WRONG end of the color spectrum.
You installed spacers on your STOCK wheels and tires to get them to stick out past the fender.
You see cars like yours in a Shriner's Parade for Children and clowns are driving them.
You bring an empty Maxwell House coffee can with you to compare size when you shop for an aftermarket exhaust system.
Your Eclipse GS-T hardtop has a "SPYDER" emblem on the rear...
Your sum knowledge of suspension is: "the more negative camber, the better the handling."
You push your car through the staging lanes. That way, maybe you can break into the 16s by keeping the motor cool between runs.
Someone at work suggested it might be to cut down on glare, too.
You'd want a flat or matte black for that. Back in the day, race cars would have just a black stripe down the hood for this purpose. Much cooler lokking. IMHO.Quote:

My buddy makes carbon fiber rims.
They are kick ass.
The 18" version weighs only 14 lbs.
Coming soon to a car near you.
People who make fun of other people cars make me laugh... I'm sure you all have something really awesome in your garage, eh?
Black hoods were around a long time ago...

For the record, I own a Dodge Dart, with, *gasp* a flat black hood scoop...
No, I'll readily admit I have the most boring car on the planet--a Honda Accord--but some of this heavily customized cars definitely deserve derision. However, my question to begin with was legit. I really had no idea why they would want a black hood.Quote:

And for the record, I have something awesome in my garage.
One of the funniest ricer websites around... www.riceboypage.com
And I have big plans for a couple things, does that count?
nrthface: American muscle sucks.
ad - comment wasn't directed at you, I should have quoted.
woodsy - It's a 360 and sadly, the horn doesn't work. Hopefully, someday I'll have enough money to put a musical air horn of some sort in it.
truth - this is really awesome :p

American muscle is fine but they don't hold a candle to old school rice on anything outside a straightaway. I built up a 510 in High School that would smoke new mustangs and I'm seriously considering a 240z project.
Something like this weighing in around 2200 lbs poping 270+ naturally asperated ponies with the tits handling. Oh jeah!

LMAO...all better now with all sorts of new toys going on over the next week.
nice, like what?Quote:

He's done research up the wazoo- if you want to I can give you some contact info for him... though an RB26 would be make serious ass clowns of almost anyone who tried to give you a go....
I had a friend put a chev 350 into a Morris Minor as well as Renault 5 seats. Ooh la la!
The sr20 is a sweet motor. It's forefather (fj20) is what I put in my 510, but the 240z is way cleaner with a built up version of its na straight 6.
I love American muscle but I love quick & light cars too.Quote:

I'm not sure if you knew but Toyota assembles cars in the U.S. Major Subaru base in Indiana too.
In Sonora, Hermosillo is home to a Ford plant and it continues to expand. GM as well has a few plants outside of the U.S. Executive decisions about Chrysler are made in Germany. There's a reason why there's so many flights into and out of Germany via DTW. China as well.
That's globalization for you, my friend.
Interesting info... I don't mean to "hate" on "Ricers" because as with everything there are many that are legit. What gets me are the half-ass pimp jobs that are done to some of the cars.Quote:

Heh. They make excellent minesweepers on long drives.
