Pacifica or the Sunset in SF. Lots of fog though.
Santa Cruz.
Anywhere in SoCal.
Alameda. Sunshine all the time. 30 minutes from San Fran and less than 3 hours from Tahoe! It is a sweet spot for the Bay Area.
Whereever you end up. Surf is sweet, snow is awesome, mt biking kicks ass. So much to do cool stuff to do and I have a law school final in two days.
I like the man-whores in the Loin'...and record stores to buy the 80's pop songs they enjoy
but yeah, I don't mind driving either, especially to some 180 bpm tunes at ridiculously high levels driving to some gnar at least 9 months of the year.
wa wa wa wa wa wa wa w a wa w a wa w a wawawawawawa.
(charlie brown) wa wa wa wa wa wa(charlie >Brown yaeh)
See my location. Seriously. This feels like the world's best kept secret.

At least, all good music. That's for another topic, though.

It's a sweet location for sure. Not much of a secret anymore though. Everyone who's been there wants to move there (every backpacker I met in patagonia was trying to get a job downunder) There's really no professional employment on the SI though, so if you ever want to make money get in the tourist industry now, or start off with a bunch.Quote:

Don't know too much about this, but the Riviera in France/Italy up to Chamonix or countless other resorts seems to be doable in 3-4 hours as well. Probably expensive, but great beaches and mountains.
you finally coming to your senses and leaving this flat paved hell? congrats! i'll see you in CA. :D
The GF is coming around, wants to take 2 week trip in august to see what's out there. I'm trying to move that date up so we can keep this fire stoked.Quote:

Bummer is that the surfing is best when the water is super cold (winter) nor' estas(sp?) are the best for both surfing and skiing. Mts are not long adn not a ton of snow.
After five years it is. Anyway, you might have heard of a city named San Francisco. It is cheap, clean, and mellow.Quote:

Trust me, after 7 years in Chicago being able to drive to ski will be a welcome change.
Google Vina del Mar/Valparaiso, Chile. Totally modern and fun city, better weather than the Bay area, best empanadas in the world, surfing out the back door, 2-3 hours to a ton of great terrain in winter, and Pichilemu less than 2 hours south (ask DudeLe about the surf). Chile just signed a FTA w/the U.S. meaning that a lot of restrictions for gringos are being lifted :fm:Quote:

I’m sorry. I can’t sit down at a computer without being overcome with sarcasm. Anyway, the East Bay is warmer and cheaper than the city (and a 30-45 minutes closer to the mountains). Once you’re past Oakland it is hot hot hot. If you search the TGR archives you can find endless banter on which block in the city has the best coffee and most foxes per square foot.Quote:

There's great skiing in the Alpes Maritimes, a mere hour north of Monaco/Monte Carlo. Another suggestion would be Marbella in Spain, with skiing at Sol y Nieve less than 2 hrs away.
Start saving, dood.
I will nominate Manhattan Beach. Surfing all year round. The south bay lifestyle is awesome. Easy five hours to Mammoth which has one of the longest seasons in the country. LA has alot of diverse options for entertainment. You can get to Hollywood or downtown if you want to go to a game, concert or some crappy club. Close to LAX so it is easy to jump to just about any city int he world in one hop. I think the critical thing is try to work near your home. If I had to commute on the 405 or 10, I would not be living here.
Allright...the following are NOT options:
LA (or anything south of it)
Monaco (thanks alot tipp)
The entire US east coast.
