I used to be a serious Manitou hater, because they sucked - elastomer forks priced like real forks.
But I've liked the Swinger rear shocks I've ridden, and everyone seems to like their new forks (i.e. past couple of years) -- particularly the Shermans. Plus it's a $550 fork on a $1000 bike.
I generally trust your judgment, C, so I'll ask: what's wrong with the new stuff?
Art: from what I've read the rear triangles were failing. And yeah, I would pay $999 for that build kit. I'll call the local Supergo and see which fork they come with...a Z150 would be even sweeter.
My main problem is that I don't like brake jack...but I can't find a 4-bar design equipped comparably for double that price.
I just have a general disdain for manitou forks. I've never been on one that felt good and never known anyone that had one that didn't break down. If you can get the z150 with that then definitely have at it.Quote:

I know the Supergo in Colorado had 3 or 4 of the 67s with z150s for $999. Don't worry about brake jack. I ride a bullit (very similar frame) and rarely notice it. Hell at this price you can buy a floater and still get a great deal.

Sounds like a great price on a very nicely speced bike. The only thing you'd be missing is the bike snobbery of owning a "boutique" bike.
As for brake jack, wouldn't the stable platform rear shock significantly reduce brake jack? I've never had a single pivot design, but it seems to me that brake jack is caused by the rear brake stiffening the rear suspension, which in turn causes the rear of the bike to kind of buck upwards. I would think a stable platform shock would reduce this or eliminate it completely.
Go for it. You can't go wrong, you could even strip the bike sell it in parts and probably make some money off of the deal. But if you are looking for a freeridish bike to get into the sport, that definetly looks like a good cheap option.
I've bought 2 bikes from SuperGo this year. The Weyless XP Pro and a Iron Horse Free Ride. They both work great and have had no problems with them. I takes about 1-2 hours to put it togeather and tune it. I know I'm cheap, but you get a lot of bike for the money. ;) Crinkle is the one who first told me about SuperGo. If there a store here in UT, I'd be way tempted to buy a buch more stuff.
Hey, I'm considering the same purchase...but I'm not sure of the sizing...I'm 170 cm tall (67 inches or 5'7'' I believe) and have no experience with full-sussers...16'' or 18''?

Got mine. Z150 Dropoff is on ebay. 18" complete bike weighs almost exactly 40# with the stock big heavy flat pedals and the 1100g wire-bead Weirwolfs. Wheels (Dual Duty FR) and cranks (Holzfeller w/bash) are pimp. Looks exactly like a dark gloss green Bullitt, short wheelbase and all. CA tax and shipping pushes it just over $1100. Stoked to get the new fork so I can ride.

xboat: The 18" fits me well at a 33" inseam. I could just barely stand over a 20" because of the bent top tube, but I'd be nutting myself constantly on the trail.
I highly suspect the geometry is very close to the Bullit :D so I'd look at their size chart. Unfortunately the Bullit comes in 14.5", 17", and 19", and the 67 comes in 16", 18", 20", so you have to interpolate.
