ULTIMATE Nationals weekend.

Chain Lightning - UPA Club Nationals Champions.

Finally a Southeast team gets it done.

Here are some good pics from the weekend, not mine. I had the mini midget in tow, so photo opportunities were limited.

It was hot as snot, might be the reason Chain did so well. I can't imagine teams from the Pac NW are used to playing in 90 degree weather for 4 days straight.

DOG won Masters, speaking of old teams.

It was a great weekend, as usual. The $1 endless beer cup makes it that way.

I am so happy for my buddy Brandon. He is the guy laying out in the first photo. He had multiple layout D's this weekend. Some of which were game turners. Gotta give the guy props. Drove from Tampa to ATL once a month for 5 or 6 months. That is some serious commitment. He is about the nicest guy you will ever meet, and it is just really nice to see all that work pay off.

Um, DoG didn't win Masters.

That sounds like a great time! Dollar beers, sweet. And congrats to your friend, that is cool. And nice pictures!

Any mags going to the show this year?

My Masters team finally broke on through. I originally registered with the UPA back in 1986 or 87, going to my first Nationals in 2010. Fucking stoked!

Yeah buddy- I'll be there ... watching again. My team tied for third at regionals in Austin. Only 2 bids this year for Masters in the South.

PearJam09 will be there too- playing for one of the New England teams- Co-Ed I think. District 5 is his team name I think.

I'll look for your team. Prolly be there one day during the week dodging work, and one day on the weekend partying. My buddy and teammate Tim runs the beer truck, so you know where I'll be found.

I'll just ask for Danno?

I'll be playing with Le Tigre in the masters div, ask for "Stoyer" if you hit our sidelines (phonetic spelling of my last name, which is often how they refer to me; actual correct spelling would just lead to mispronouncing;)).

Damn- Santa Fe? That's a lot of travel from Boulder. We pulled guys from all over the state to put our crew together. Same situation?

Yup. I'll be there with District 5. #33. My first trip to play as well. I've been to watch in the past.

I'm the sicko that wants to play chase/cup in the zone all weekend without a break. Find the [ame="http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2938638&postcount=77"]little Asian girl[/ame] on our sidelines and ask her if she has change. She'll know what you're talking about.

I knew exactly which clip that was before hitting play, though haven't seen that exact version. Sick. So glad all of that was on film, love it at the end when he asks if he went over the dude.

The core of the team is from Santa Fe, but there are guys from ABQ, Tucson, PHX, a Denver guy, a Boulder guy (me), a SW Colorado guy, a Reno guy, a Portland guy, and one or two SoCal guys. Needless to say, we don't practice every week. :D They had one practice weekend that I missed, and we played Sectionals as a practice weekend too.

PS I am #15, generally play on O points, but will play D points if we're running zone, I'll be running cup (so if the other team knew that, they'd know a zone was coming if they saw me on a D line).

I generally play zone with some sporadic man D. Almost never play O. In my experience, even if they know we're coming zone, they still are going to have to play against it, so I don't try to hide the fact that we're going zone as I head on the field.

Yeah, I hear you, probably even more true in Masters, you may fool them by the type of zone you play, but the simple fact of "zone" doesn't fool many.

Sounds really familiar. Our whole team was from FL, but from all over. We have all been playing for years. We played 1 tourney and a scrimmage with the Tampa open team, and then used Sectionals as practice too. I think we might have a pretty good team next year. Everybody keeps getting older, so we have an unlimited pool. Getting some of these older guys to admit they are ready to play Masters, that is another story.

Heh, this year our team had 8 or 9 33 year olds playing Masters for the first time. :D

My daughters are on the team that lost two games to go at SW mixed regionals a few weeks ago. Kinda bummed to see Mischief & Blackbird both get bounced in the quarters.
