NSR TR: First fishing of the year (pictures)
The school day dragged on sooo long today lookinga t my watch waiting to bust out of there. Today was not about skiing it was about my summer passion, fly fishing. Got home from school gathered together waders, rods, reels, sunglasses, flies, and money for gas. After getting gas and a quick bite to eat I drove the 20 miles to down town anchorage where I dropped into mountain view then again down towards the port. The wharehouse district home to cheep hookers, trains, trucks, vacant lots, meth labs and native rainbow trout. Not expecting much I began fishing this is not run of the mill beautyful Alaskan fishing
Looks like Ohio

I managed to hook 3 fish losing all of them before I really realized that I had them, that shock of adrenilin when you feel weight on the end of your rod feels so good, I've forgotted how good it is. I fished till about 7:30 kept saying to myself "now it feels like summer"
Walking back I started to forget I was in the middle of Urban anchorage

I saw a couple of cool birds like this mallard

and a couple dippers. Met some cool people from Mountain view too, guys who can't afford a car and fly fish all the time, riding thier bikes around, very cool.
Yes now it can be summer, winter was great but I'm ready, skiing will occur this summer biking will occur but I realize now that season change is good.

Anchorage is a freaking ugly city, Seattle's nicer easy, its like ohio only you have these giant awesome mountains in the background
And no there is no better place to fish right now, alot is closed (rainbows are spawning) or frozen still (rivers freeze here)

Judging from the background in the first photo they could have been brown trout until the toxic waste gave them that nice rainbow appearance.

I think it's cool if that's where you're catching fish. People seem to equate fly fishing with being out in nature. And while that's one cool thing about it, it's not a requirement.
I thought it was awesome to see people fishing in NYC, and if I had something besides light inshore tackle when I lived there, I'd have been out next to 'em.

You had a camera and walked past the cheap hookers and instead saved this to Biglines and posted it here.
