NSR TR: First fishing of the year (pictures)

The school day dragged on sooo long today lookinga t my watch waiting to bust out of there. Today was not about skiing it was about my summer passion, fly fishing. Got home from school gathered together waders, rods, reels, sunglasses, flies, and money for gas. After getting gas and a quick bite to eat I drove the 20 miles to down town anchorage where I dropped into mountain view then again down towards the port. The wharehouse district home to cheep hookers, trains, trucks, vacant lots, meth labs and native rainbow trout. Not expecting much I began fishing this is not run of the mill beautyful Alaskan fishing

    Looks like Ohio

I managed to hook 3 fish losing all of them before I really realized that I had them, that shock of adrenilin when you feel weight on the end of your rod feels so good, I've forgotted how good it is. I fished till about 7:30 kept saying to myself "now it feels like summer"

Walking back I started to forget I was in the middle of Urban anchorage

I saw a couple of cool birds like this mallard
    http://www.biglines.com/photos/blpic22348.jpg
    this bufflehead

and a couple dippers. Met some cool people from Mountain view too, guys who can't afford a car and fly fish all the time, riding thier bikes around, very cool.

Yes now it can be summer, winter was great but I'm ready, skiing will occur this summer biking will occur but I realize now that season change is good.

That first pic really does look like Ohio, that place is a dump. On the bright side it is home to the goodyear world HQ. I drove past that place last summer picking up a dealer trade in Akron, damn it is huge. HUGE. But mostly Ohio just sucks. Worse even the PA, which is better then Canada, but not by much.

p.s. whats so cool about a friken mallard? Maybe something like an eagle or a stork, but a mallard?

p.p.s whats the difference between your mother and a mallard with a cold? Well, one is a sick duck, and I can't remember the rest but your mother's a whore! (sean connery voice)

Agreed Ohio sucks except there isn't a hill that big in Ohio (I went there last year for the same reason I'm going to Pennsylvania)

actully nothing to cool about mallards just new at taking wildlife pictures, buffleheads are the shit though, we don't see em too often, Eagles are about as common as mallards we call them dumpster chickens

    Dave, Dex, quit your policing.

I think it's cool that he drives 20 miles to go fishing in the middle of Ankorage.

AKPM -- Aren't there any better spots within 20 miles? Why do you go there?

No one's policing (I'm not, anyway).
I think it's funny when people type 'forgotted', thasall. I'll keep the non-joking guidelines in mind, though.

Whenever I glance at this topic I keep thinking AKPM has just experienced his "First fisting of the year (pictures)".

I'm suddenly very glad the topic (and pictures especially) are what they actually are, and not what roo's glances lead him to believe.

edit: now it goes for iceman, too. Geez, I'm surrounded.

Anchorage is a freaking ugly city, Seattle's nicer easy, its like ohio only you have these giant awesome mountains in the background

And no there is no better place to fish right now, alot is closed (rainbows are spawning) or frozen still (rivers freeze here)

Judging from the background in the first photo they could have been brown trout until the toxic waste gave them that nice rainbow appearance.
Damn, we're in a tight spot!

I think it's cool if that's where you're catching fish. People seem to equate fly fishing with being out in nature. And while that's one cool thing about it, it's not a requirement.

I thought it was awesome to see people fishing in NYC, and if I had something besides light inshore tackle when I lived there, I'd have been out next to 'em.

You had a camera and walked past the cheap hookers and instead saved this to Biglines and posted it here.

My mind is boggling right now.
