Touring boots that flex like real ski boots?

Hey all

I’ve gone through a bunch of touring boots…current technical scouts. Seems every boot becomes in flexible, just f’ing rigid when locked into ski mode. Is there a boot that actually skis like an RS 130 when locked out?

Have you tried the Scarpa 4-Quattro Pro? I find their flex easy to engage, and it ramps up quickly. Kind of like what I experience with the Technica Firebird R but [much] less damp. I used to tour with the Lange XT3 Pro, and found their flex much more “on/off”—a bit more difficult to engage, and then more likely to bottom out. I skied both the Lange and Scarpa with a GFT liner.

Hoji free 130 has to be close. Skis as well as my lupo 130 ti c. Nice to set in the flex and ive never blown thru the travel. Great deals out there if you can find your size

Doesn't exist. Doesn't matter how fancy the walk mode is, lightweight thin plastic and carbon is just never going to flex like a proper alpine boot.

Nordica strider, barely qualifies as a touring boot but they ski pretty great. Used a pair as my full time alpine boot for a while. If you want something that walks well the quattro is as close as i’ve found

No. Quattro Pros have a firm but accessible flex unlike any touring boot I’ve tried, and are everything I could want for lapping steep powder lines in the backcountry, but there’s still a huge gap in performance compared to “real” ski boots.

This is where cabrio touring boots shine, the Lupo one thirty c has nearly the same performance as a Krypton one thirty.

Maybe look at a Roxa R three one thirty. They don’t ski like a touring boot but aren’t heavy like the Lupo

It is fair to say my Technica Cochise and my Rossignol alpine boot ski very differently.

newer hawx are made from same material as resort boot (PU) so I'd assume they have a very similar flex profile. You can also add a 'gnar bar' which replaces the walk mechanism to lock it in place.

I've got the cochise with some zipfit garas and a booster strap. It skis pretty close to an actual alpine boot.

I have the same setup, and agree it skis well, but when I stick the ZipFits into a pair of Mach1 130s, there is a noticeable difference.

Oh definitely agree with you there, I havent tried the mach1 yet but for my style I don't think I would need a true stiff alpine boot.

I’m really loving how the Ridge skis. Have an intuition fx race in them. Once you figure out how to get them tight they ski so well.

For reference I ski a mach[emoji637] concept with powerwrap in resort.

The biggest issue I see with trying to make a touring boot ski like an alpine boot is the weight, and the second is the walk lever. Even though most 50/50 boots are going away from superlight plastics, there are still weight saving measures in place.As for the walk lever, even something like the Tecnica T-ride or the Atomic FreeLock is still going to have play when compared to a bolt going straight through the back of both cuffs. In blisters review of the Atomic Gnar Bar, they even say that that is not a replacement for a dedicated fixed cuff boot. Long story short, you will always have a compromise in a touring boot.

I also think the XT3 is pretty good boot. No complaints other than the walk mode lever sucks. They do good inbounds and touring. For straight up inbounds it's going to be the old RS 130 plug. There is really no middle ground.

Check to see if the cuff pivots are ovalized. Mine were and they replaced via warranty (I’ve had great experiences with Tecnica warranty). Took about 30 days of skiing to introduce a decent amount of slop.

I’m happy enough with my Aromic Hawx Prime XTD with intuition pro wraps. Skis great inbounds and out. Not the best boot out there on the uphills, but light enough with the intuitions and tours fine
