    Pants for chairlift riding?

On snow days at my local I’m going to be sitting on snow riding slow (fixed grip chairlifts), and inevitably within a few hours my ass is going to be wet. No matter that I have the latest and greatest Arcteryx Gore Pro bibs that I wash and retreat diligently, they still aren’t up to the task. Gear has been getting substantial better over the years, and I mostly remain dry, warm and functional through a day of storm skiing, but I’m still getting a wet butt. Getting technical: when sitting on a snowy chairlift the warmth of my body melts even cold snow, and my body weight focused through my sitz bones creates enough pressure to overwhelm the hydrostatic head of the membrane. It seems obvious to me that for chairlift riding the seat area of my pants needs to be completely impermeable and should feature a layer of thin uncompressable insulation. No, I don’t want a beaver tail, just a pair of ski pants that actually work.

Some friends of mine have had luck wearing padded liner shorts under their ski pants to fix this problem - the kind with dense foam under your butt to take impacts. I've never gone down that route myself but it seems to help.

Try wearing another layer inside or something, Red is lower than say Big White so is it always wet instead of snowy ?

Just get the ass cape. It’s a life/ass saver, plus you look core af in the lift line. I love mine for those soggy days or when the snow is frozen to the chair.

Add a layer of basketball shorts or something. Or your hill's lifties need to get better at clearing the snow off the chairs.
    No longer stuck.

Never hurts to whip your own seat before sitting down either (if the liftie hasn't)

I’m rolling a Norrona Tamok bibs and jacket. The long cut of the Tamok jacket (really more of a parka) gives me two layers on the butt. Maybe look at a long jacket?

Multifunctional?!
You will also look like godzilla coming down the mountain so yes, very multifunctional!

For rain and wet snow, the Beaver Tail Butt Flap (http://www.jagear.biz/gear/butt-flap) can’t be beat. Yes, you’ll look like a tool, but your ass will be dry. There’s also the Ass Gasket (https://assgasket.com) which goes under your ski pants. I haven’t tried that. I chose the Beaver Tail because it prevents your shell from wetting out when sitting on wet chairs.

I have a pair of dog shit OG TNF futurelight bibs that soak through on even the lightest driest powder day so I have been working on a solution to this issue for a while. I started wearing boardshorts under my bibs and over my longjohns and that helped immensely. Great for days where I don't wear longjohns too.
