    Holiday songs

The RIP Alice thread and people listening to Alice's Restaurant on Tgiving got me thinking. I listen to Dave Alvin's 4th of July on the 4th. Robert earl keen's Merry Christmas from the Family captures the true spirit of the holiday.

I was thinking of that one but my family never has reunions, and we're cultural opposites--I don't think Slayton gets the New Yorker. (But then McMurtry--neither one of them--isn't quite the dirtbag he makes himself out to be. My wife was offended when he had a glass of wine at a show instead of beer. But then my wife is more of a dirtbag than she makes herself out to be--margarita, please, hold the salt, hold the ice, hold the lime juice, hold the triple sec.)

Saw him do a set in Austin once. There’s a little club across the river from downtown that he would play late on a regular basis. Can’t remember the name

Every time I've seen him he's mentioned the Continental Club. But it's been a while.

    No Mariah Carey?

I’d post a link. But no need to Rick roll.

Also, ‘A Christmas Gift For You From Phil Spector’ may be the best Christmas album.

    ^ Pixies, Holiday Song.

Tapatalk shows the thumbnail, but if I edit on my phone it’ll delete the post. Whatever.

But in all seriousness, maybe some cool jazz around xmas. Yo La Tango around turkeyday. Boards of Canada for rural ski commutes in mid winter storms.

    It is indeed very good.

I can have this on in the background pretty much any time from now through New Years and enjoy it.

There was a 3 piece jazz group playing it straight through at the hotel lobby bar we grabbed a manhattan at this weekend. Dark wood paneled walls, deep quilted leather seats, candles on tables, snacks in little silver trays and really well made big drinks in heavy crystal glassware.

Not a bad way to spend an hour or so.
I still call it The Jake.

If we are talking all the holidays for some reason US Blues has always been a Fourth of July song to me.

    Wave that flag
    Wave it wide and high
    Summertime done
Come and gone, my oh my

Makes me warm just thinking about it
