Cars aren’t made to hit each other anymore… sucks.

Edit to add: that pricing is likely returning the car to “as new” condition. Maybe just scope down the repairs - replace the main panels that need replacing - leave things primered. It sounds like she has the propensity to hit things anyway..:

This. Mrs. Plug and my buddy’s wife are what he likes to call “not car aware”. I’ve pushed panels back out, used zip ties to hold things where those factory clips go, etc. just to get it looking half decent. You can order any part directly, so pick and choose.

I've watched you tubes with the car guys where they talk about the prices to fix present day cars which are astronomical

pretty handy are the " these are 6 cars I would buy " and " these are 6 cars I wouldn't buy " you tubes

the new truck is one tank of fuel old and I'm already thinking, just trade it in at the end of warranty

Just got the wife a used Mazda CX-5 with 40k mi because it was at/near the top of the reliablity lists. Ratings couldn't really have been any better
If it's green, smoke it...if it's pink, poke it

We got a 2016 back in 2020 with about 45K. Just rolled 100K and has been pretty much nothing but scheduled maintenance, other than a pair of front sway bar links.

100000 units? Pfft. Rounding error on a major auto balance sheet. Turbo V6 in a Tundra or Lexus LX - shoulda just bought a sedan. Not a fan of turbos for the heavy vehicles. Been working on fleet replacements and a hard no on any of the small engine turbos for the half-ton pickup replacements.

So I asked the dealer, buddy said they have sold 200 tundras and none have failed BUT Toyota has recalled the vehical to replace the engine, which is actualy great money for the dealer. Some TGR type suggested he should buy a used Toyota with that engine just TO get the free engine plus whatever usage he gets out of the vehical until he gets the new engine ... its a great deal, so would you wana try the same exercise with Hundyia/ Kia/ Ford/ GM/ Ram ?

Toyota also replace a bunch of Tacoma frames, Tacoma leaf springs and 3.0 V6 head gasskettes from back in the day that were all well after the warranty period had ended, my4-runer got a new head gasskette/ timing belt/ free 1500$ major tuneup 7 years after it rolled off the lot well out of warranty period, so its not that something got recalled its how Toyota handled it

In any case car wizard guy is saying any Toyota truck is the trucks to buy used

edit: the new Tundra avec 10spd/ turbo/ TRD is awesume, has awesume power, i duno if i would give it to an employee to thrash on ? I can always trade mine at end of warrnaty

I woke up to an alert from LifeLock warning me that someone was trying to to use my information to get a car loan. "Honey, quick what's the login to the LifeLock account? I need to check this shit out!" She can't tell me over text because "Someone might hack our text messages".... And do what? Use the information to commit identity theft? Like they're doing RIGHT F**KING NOW??

...it was real btw. Had to freeze all my credit with all three agencies and file a police report.

She also won't give Google permission to upload photos to the cloud because "I don't want my pictures to be on the internet"...so instead she keeps them on her phone, with apple's backup feature on...

    This woman has a doctorate.

Sounds like she spends too much time looking at clickbait paranoia stirring articles on shit websites, you know, the ones that harvest all your information.

My wife is a lawyer with a masters in marine biology... she dries cups and bowls in the drying rack right-side-up. Some people are really smart but get used to wearing a single hat, and lose the ability to think critically outside of their lane.

Went on date night the other week with the wife. I drove her car because i wasnt drinking (shoulder surgery) and my car had a tire with a slow leak that the tire shop was going to fix for free the next day. It starts raining and her wipers are doing almost nothing. just smearing and streaking. I ask here WTF?! she says that she cant really see either, but since we are planning to get a new car sometime late winter-spring she feels it is a waste to replace the wiper blades. In her mind the $40 cost for new wiper blades outweighs the ability to see for the next 4 months of a dark constantly rainy seattle winter. SMH. i went out and replaced her blades the next day. The cost-benefit, risk-reward analysis from such an intelligent woman is just mind blowingly bad sometimes.

I laughed out loud to that one. (and many more on this thread) The reason being, I can relate. There are MANY duties that are mine, and mine alone. (A husband\mans job) What I cannot figure out is which duties are hers, and hers alone. Replacing wipers is my job. It's an easy one of course...but the double standard pisses me off.

Why is it always our job to break down boxes so more than one thing can fit in the recycling?

(I don't really mind, there's something super appealing about cutting the packing tape and folding the box down, but it's weird it doesn't occur to my wife to do that. Maybe she knows I enjoy it?)

At a time not too long ago, It was popular idea for the individual in a society to do things that helped that society run smoother. Today the ethos is ME and NOW.

Yep, I asked my wife a while back when she was complaining about always being the one to get recycling into the bin (which could not be further from the truth), how many times she would estimate she's broken down a box before said trip to the recycle bin so we could fit more than a few amazon boxes in it...? (on a lifetime basis) That question did not go over well.

It's not worth keeping score over things like that. My wife is retired and has more important things to worry about than the recycling bin. Like laying in bed until 9:30 AM every morning, drinking coffee and playing free cell.

Pointless. Just lean in…. The double standard is our punishment from thousands of years of patriarchal rule.

So the solution must be that we enroll our wives in classes on how to load dishwashers, break down boxes, etc and we all win!

Face it. Our wives have trained us and they are the superior species. Sucks.

Case in point. We have 4 animals, 2 dogs and 2 cats. The cats are my step cats and one of the dogs is my daughter’s. Somehow I am responsible for all their urine and fecal matter, feeding and walking.

Just happened. One day I’m cleaning the litter box so I can walk the dogs before it gets too dark and the light bulb goes off “I need to load and run the dishwasher”. So I quickly broke down all the Amazon boxes stacked in the hallway, fed the pets and dropped my daughter off at gymnastics practice.

What was my wife doing the whole time? Coloring paper flowers with markers in her office watching her iPad.

I think our solution is to enroll grandpa in some classes at the senior center or something so he can get some new material to regale us with.
