I'm using a 1Up hitch rack to schlep my fat bike around and the road salt has completely decimated 2 chains in the last 4 rides.

I'm guessing there's no real solution to this besides not transporting my bike via hitch rack? Will the hot queso treatment help?

I've had the same drivetrain for the last two seasons. Half on the North Shore rack, half on the 1Up. Haven't noticed any degradation. What the fuck do they put on the roads where you're at?

FWIW, I don't wipe the excess lube off in the winter.

Salt, tons of salt. Road crews aren't shy about using it constantly. It's the reason I undercoat my truck every fall; that shit just eats away at everything.

I bought a jug of this from Jeff Bezos. I think I've only used it a couple of times. Might be worth a try.

I take my front wheel off every time and stuff my bike in the car (toyota matrix). Even in the summer I hate putting my bike out in the road dust if I can avoid it. I guess that and the quedo dip is why my drive train is 3 yo and not stretched and deformed.

But doesn’t your bike get dirty when you ride it on a trail?

I think the brine shit they use in VT is even worse than the old salt. It gets all over everything and eats through metal. I throw my bike in the back of the car. Any time on the road and I rinse it off immediately when done. Still go through a chain a year.

my friend wrote a novel about fat biking. He built the first fat bikes and coined the name fat bike. I enjoyed the book and am impressed that he wrote it. I know many of the characters in the book so I might of appreciated the story more than others. Any way if you want to spend some money on an entertaining easy read with some history buy a copy. Fuck no, it's a fat bike, I only ride it in the most pristine snow.

Maxima Chain Guard (for motorcyles) will stay on your chain in winter shit and salt conditions, but it's going to attract some dirt. It will also require some work to un-goop it in the spring and will leave classic black marks on your pants when you rub against it.

So you ride 2 or 3 times a year.

We got 2” of rain last night but around 5AM it changed to this.

The GF is chomping at the bit to go but i kind of know it may be sticky. A few grassy areas might be alright.

The local school system has already called everyone off, she does not have to drive the big yellow petri dish so there is that.

My trails are finally ready to ride

it's been a weird winter, we got nothing but rain and wind in Dec and have only accumulated like a foot and half total since then.

The skiing is garbage, but with a clear and cold forecast, we should have great riding for a few weeks.

My trails are frozen solid, I ran on them last night and you couldn't even see foot prints.
I was able to groom before it froze so for the most part the trails are very smooth.
Long term forecast has no change for 10 days, should be some fast riding.

Studs are required for KOM attempts

    As in a MoonBike?
I haven’t seen one in person, but
thought they may make a good single track groomer.

The only thing I hate are wheeled ATV’s. They fishtail a ton and totally ruin a trail.

I didn't know they were called Moonbikes, but yeah that's it.
I'm not sure they'd have the power or battery capacity to pull a groomer.
The owner let me try it and it was fun.

I haven't ridden it so I gave the Bigfoot 3 to my son & the grand kids, they got 5 acres of soft stuff and a huge garage to fill up so they can use it

Got a new Moonlander in the shop today.
I’m strangely intrigued by this abomination.
