I’m heading down Friday and Saturday. TBH, I don’t really want to as the skiing will be hideous no doubt.

Friday looks meh indeed but Saturday should be warm enough to soften things up?

Just got off the phone with Mammoth and can confirm there will be no skiing after Memorial Day this year due to work on Broadway. Basically it sounds like w/o Broadway, there is not a good set up for race teams and therefore, all will shut down.
Bummer, as my kid and I have a traditional of skiing and biking in Mammoth the first week after school gets out, snow permitting.
Bigger bummer is we might end up at Universal Studios instead, as we have a few free tickets.
Might need to make the trek out there for Memorial Day weekend...
Cool temps on Wednesday and a hard freeze the night before made for a great all day corn cycle. The snow got soft but never sticky and the groomers were skiing well until 4:00.
Snow was smooth & carvy.
Wall Street.
Stump Alley had fun corn laps all day.
Afternoon Cornice.
All of the race courses had really good snow all day.
The course down Gremlins to St Anton’s. Fun day to ski fast with opens slopes.
Upper Mtn is still holding lots of snow.
I finished the day with a hike up to the top of Ch 22.
Looking down Avi 1 which skied really well at 4:00 pm. Skiers right was soft top to bottom.
Looking back up Avy 1. Pretty good skiing for May 1st.
After ski MTB ride out to Sherwin Creek Rd.

Thanks for the update C. Looks like a blast out there. Any 1 almost looks like there are no bumps. Trying to figure out how to get back there before closing.
Potential for 8-10" this weekend. The season that started late, but now will now not give up.
This is being built at the bottom of ch 2.
It’s for the world 1/4 pipe championships coming up.
That thing is massive.

Thanks ESS!!
I'm heading up this weekend, for the last time this year. Our ski lease ends May 15th, but I only have one more trip in me.
This will be a Sunday AM through mid-week. Sunday is looking like it might be nice, and I'm hoping Monday and Tuesday get some good winds for a nice buff. My last trip last year was around the same time and the wind turned the roughly 8 inches of snow that fell into an absolutely epic few days, possibly my best Hangman's turns all year, and that says something because I got lots of good hangers laps last season.
"Have you ever seen a monk get wildly fucked by a bunch of teenage girls?" "No" "Then forget the monastery."
"You ever hear of a little show called branded? Arthur Digby Sellers wrote 156 episodes. Not exactly a lightweight." Walter Sobcheck.
"I didn't have a grandfather on the board of some fancy college. Key word being was. Did he touch the Filipino exchange student? Did he not touch the Filipino exchange student? I don't know Brooke, I wasn't there."
Thanks ESS!!

It was another fun day out on the hill. Today (Thurs) was just a bit warmer so the snow got softer earlier. Crowds continued to be little to none.
Judging from the height of the sign at the top the snowpack looks healthy.
10:00 a.m. at ch 5 and the snow was prime corn.
Chair 3 at 10:45 a.m.
Did the afternoon hike to the top of chair 22 again today with Avy 2 being the call.
Looking down Avy 2 from just above the choke. Good coverage and the snow on the skiers right was smooth and soft.
This line skied well. Go left after the throat and ski the lookers left side of the bowl.
View from the Stump Alley parking lot at the end of the day.
I pedaled thru the Stump Alley parking lot after skiing just to check out all the different rigs. Everything from this bus with Oregon plates to…..
This lifted, beefy looking Sprinter with lots of
Sports mobile mods on it.
Very nice.
Looks like one more day of fair weather before it changes this weekend.

'Tis the Sweet Season. Looking forward to next week, although it looks like it will a little cooler than normal after the front moves through.
Good stuff!
Here’s the latest Mammoth forecast for Saturday.
Storm totals have been bumped up slightly since earlier this week. It’s gorgeous out here today (Friday) and another good corn cycle is in effect.

It was another in a string of fun, spring skiing that’s about to go away. Mammoth is now under a Winter Storm Warning at noon Saturday with up to 2ft of snow possible.
The snow softened more up high today and the Top had good snow in places.
The entrances into Wipe Out & Drop Out are still rock free.
Looking into Wipe Out. After clearing the bumps at the top the rest of it skied well in the afternoon.
Skiers right of P2 had good snow in it.
The slush under Philippe’s was good as well.
Bottom shack of “Old” chair 1 is gone. Hoping the “New” chair 1 won’t have the issues that the upgraded chair 16 did this winter.
Hiked up to the top of ch 22 at the end of the day and the clouds were streaming in out of the West. Top was socked in a few minutes later.
Winds are forecast of up to
90 mph Saturday, so don’t plan on much being open. Sunday could be the day.

Jeebus .... 10 - 14" forecast for tonight.
There was some heavy snowfall staring in the early afternoon. It was definitely wet and thick at the start of the storm. Looks like the Mtn has picked up 10” at Main Lodge and most likely higher amounts over the Top. Looks like the front has moved thru and Sunday is looking partly sunny. Getting ready for a rare Cinco de Mayo pow day!
Had to make a Vons run earlier. Multiple 2wd cars were stuck at the bottom of Forest Trail.
Yesterday I rode my mtb thru the Vons parking lot.

It was a stormy drive up Meridian.

A few more pics from a stellar day of May pow.
Untouched Avy chutes. Hiked ch 22 multiple times today and found good snow each time. For POV proof check out Bernie’s instagram page and his run on 22 today.
The top just before opening around 1:00 pm.
Got out to the ch 9 area late in the day. Gold Hill.
Traversed out past ch 9 and found lots of untracked snow. The Southern aspect and high sun angle put just a bit of crust on the snow, but still very skiable.
Last run of the day as clouds started to sock in the top of the Mtn. Overall a very fun day.
Spring hours go into effect tomorrow with lifts opening at
7:30.

Curious. Did you have skin?
Those runs over by 9. How did you get back to Chair 4? Or was Schoolyard runnings this past weekend? But even with that option, that is a long traverse, and some side stepping, to all the way back to Canyon.
Unreal Cinco de Shredo. Wish I was there.
