DSR is like last of the independents.

One 4th of July they let me drive my truck up to the top to ski the backside.

Bummer I didn’t cross paths with you as I ended up there around 10;45.

Attempted to go to OV, but traffic on 89 was backed up to the dump turnoff at 9.
Bailed and went to DSR, although I got stuck in gridlock on 80, too, thanks to unnecessary chain control, asshole truckers, and some kind of accident.
I almost turned around at the Donner Lake exit, but so glad I stuck it out.
$25 ticket and while quite a bit of the mountain was already tracked out at 11, I still managed to find some decent untracked stashes well after 1 pm.

I’m sure we saw each other . I only saw a few pinheads.

It took forever to get up there cuz if fucked up chain control and hwy 20 closure. We rolled in by 10 and left at 1 cuz of hunger. Took some nice untracked laps down to near bottom on 2 and walked back to the other side. Rode a lot on 3. Lots of untracked runs with fun turns in steeper stuff.

Donner summit was great today. Wind and clouds kept snow the good well into the afternoon. Even managed a solid lake run at 2.30/3. Oh and SB was spinning dis for the homeowners. No wonder they have such a strict no uphill policy!

Yeah, I realized that right after I posted, but got sidetracked and ultimately was too lazy to edit/delete.

I read sb uphill travel policy and it seems you can't park in their lots but if you park elsewhere you can skin or ski in the resort

I’m not totally clear about the policy any more at SB. In recent years, they’ve had a temp hard closure for public safety, even in FS lands, as they tear down the mtn and their operations currently, they are still operating the mtn. There was a type of clinic today and earlier this week. Plus, whatever homeowners are doing. Patrol conducted avi control (blasting) today.

My interpretation is that you can access forest service land just not use their parking lot. Either way touring at sugarbowl isn’t super interesting after spending a season skiing all that terrain especially without the ease of access of the parking lot. I just thought it was funny that they were spinning the lifts while telling us commoners not to access the public land

ease of access of the parking lot?? Even having what I would consider good parking there it was still longer than I walked on any day at Alpine this year.

Can you tour Alpine right now?

Anyone hit the Cirque yet? Seems like a prime year to get into that stuff. Plenty of coverage and some fresh snow.

I had been going up Lower 40 toward Gentian last week and before since Scott and Lakeview had closed, but the creek next to Subway was just about to have no crossing before this storm. I don't know their official policy but I assumed last week could be too soon to head straight up. It was just Monday the 29th they had an OV employee day there and then starting cleanup.

I’m referring to ease of access for touring post season. Parking in the front of Judah lot to tour the resort is less of a slog than parking at ASI and touring over to Judah and back. I agree that for the most part SB parking sucks unless you park by the gondola which has its own set of issues or park in the reserved parking after noon. There are rumors of a new parking garage at Judah but probably will be paid parking.

Touring at alpine after the season used to be a go pre Altera not sure these days. I remember one May touring up and stopping at the top of roundhouse to find the lift shack open. After hotboxing I had the bright idea of pressing button to start the lift and low and behold it fired up.

Yesterday, Sugarbowl hosted the Donner Summit, which was a clinic for young athletes aspiring for a career in the sport. They spun disney for that event. There are stories on SB's social media pages of the athlete's sharing that day. Patrol ran avi control in the zone (from DSR, it looks like they got a lot to run). Earlier in the week, those athletes were riding park features at SB, which i assume was off the judah chair. Their website say "no uphill travel." I believe that the policy is for their entire operating area (private areas and FS permitted areas). I assume that the no uphill travel policy will change soon, at least on FS lands, and in past years, they restricted parking with an automated gate on the road to the judah lodge. from DSR yesterday, it looked like they've plowed some of the roads in the village, which are snow-covered during the ski season.

my favorite SB May powder touring day from several years ago was when i drove on the plowed road to the parking lot next to the lodge at Disney: up disney, down nancy's; up lincoln, down silverbelt area, up lincoln again and down something else (can't remember), up judah and down. it was a good and fun tour in untracked powder especially with a trailhead at the toe of the first zone to be skied.

23 inches in our driveway on the Summit by 8:30 p.m., Saturday evening, and another 6 inches of cold fluff Sunday morning. Was going to head to Palisades, but 80 traffic was being held at Boreal about 7:45 a.m.

Bailed and made three runs off the north side of Castle. Multiple groups of human and sled powered skiers/riders there, all playing nice. Some impressive sloughs and at least two large storm slabs with powder clouds running to the bottom of the bowl.

I managed to find my way down to Carson pass early and got one run in before meeting my girlfriend and heading to Kirkwood. Snow was touchy and sluffs were running hard and fast. I took one look at the wall with at least 4 visible slides that ran during the storm with visible wind slabs and said no thanks. Couple people got carried, heard one guy deployed his air bag. A few eventually dropped the wall with big sluffs, but saw no one carried in that zone.

I skied the shoulder of the red lake gasx gully, did note the gully had slid full path nearly to the road, I presume from caltran firing the gasx off, couldn’t see the start zone due to poor visibility in the early AM up higher.
