I'll help Leroy out with comments from my conspiracy loving friends. Often when I see another shooting, I'll post it up jokingly as "another gun control advocate appears." Unfortunately, in their conspiracy world, it isn't a joke, but rather part of the lizard people plan to separate us from our guns. You see, all these shootings are staged for public opinion purposes - to trick all the NPC's into accepting gun control. And there's more evidence for the lizard people when you look at Covid vaccines. Obviously, there was a worldwide conspiracy to trick us all into taking the vaccines.

I don't think Leroy believes the lizard people part (yet), but there's clearly something weird going on that we don't understand. I recently saw a long covid study looking at mental deficits in sufferers. They evaluated three classes of people - long covid, prior infected, and never infected. As expected, they found mental deficits among long covid sufferers compared to expected results, and did not find this among the never infected. For folks infected but not suffering long covid, they also found mental deficits.

The lizard people are real, and I am sexually attracted to them.

There are def weird things going on. If you can't see it it's because you won't see it.

I'd be very interested in seeing this study if you can find it. I had covid once, and honestly do feel just slightly fuzzier and less sharp afterwards. Wich is weird as shit. Coronavirus have never done that before, as far as I'm aware? There is so much about this, the worlds first manmade pandemic, that is wierd as shit and people are just sticking their heads in the sand to not think about.

And, in all seriousness, there is an ongoing bipartisan effort from our politicians to push us further and further into a society with less rights, and more governmental control.

TWiV mentioned the study in a recent Dr. Griffin episode, probably one or two weeks back. I don't weight a single study high enough to go back and find it. Even with several studies, we still have the problem that they are observational studies. (The same type that told us alcohol was associated with longer life, before they corrected for sick people told not to drink) If you go to the microbe.tv site, sometimes they have show summaries. Might be the easiest way to find it.

As for more governmental control - that's the purpose of government. The people see some problem they can't solve on their own, and lobby the government to fix it. Besides most of us being idiots or uninformed (all of us?), and some of us having too much influence, there's nothing fundamentally wrong with that. It's a form of collaboration. And what is less rights? Since guns are mentioned - many people want the right to go about their lives without being shot. Reforming or reinterpreting the 2nd would give us more rights.

Thanks for the info. As for your second paragraph, we fundamentally disagree about all of that. You won't legislate the world into being safe, and people do have the right to self defense. Government overreach has killed many times more people than murders in modern industrialized countries have. You fear the wrong things, because while they are much much smaller consequences, they are higher frequency, and therefore, more familiar to you. Government overreach is something you dismiss as a far fetched impossibility, but statistically, it has killed many times more people than murders in developed nations in the last hundred years. Besides, it shouldn't be an either or, like either we empower the government or we have anarchy. Thats a false dichotomy. In reality, its about checks and balances, of which, gun ownership is a part.

And NO reforming gun ownership will NOT give you more rights? How would it? You already HAVE the right to not get shot, the issue is, if someone shooots you they are choosing to VIOLATE your rights. You won't have more rights by there not being guns. In your unrealistic ideal, you'll have less people violating others rights, but you'll also have less ability to defend your own rights. And no, getting rid of all guns, even if it were possible, would not end people choosing to violate other peoples rights on an individual level, it would just make it more easy for corporations the government or the ultra wealthy to violate the rights of the unarmed masses ala feudalism fascism or communism.
