There are no current or old Etonians named Barry. That simply doesn't happen.
In fact I don't believe they let anyone from Essex in.

You'll get the warmth but no fresh. [emoji6]
And next week is a large scale pattern. so, the same...
Baz is really happy because he can work on his tan enjoying his jacuzzi near the slope. All those pesky snowstorms make it really inconvenient for THE BAZ to get in the jacuzzi.
It's a war of the mind and we're armed to the teeth.
Well, before I go to Cham, I'm back with hopefully one last request to vet my itinerary- I'm staying in Cham town.
Day 1 - Cham ski resort on the opposite (east?) side of the valley, take lift from town and make my way to flegere.
Question - is a guide recommended for off piste in this zone?
Day 2 - Get a guide for some pow - maybe valle blanche, hopefully join a group without Fat BArry
Day 3 - Grande Montets- ski the leftovers, maybe find some pow off piste?
Any/all of this is flexible. I could head to other ski areas depending on snow/terrain closures as well. As I'm solo and this is my first real euro ski experience, I'm a little intimidated at what I have to figure out.
Thanks all for your help figuring it out.
looking for a good book? check out mine! as fast as it is gone
Sounds pretty reasonable. Personally I would not ski off piste in Europe by myself but my risk tolerance is fairly low. I'm thinking particularly of le Tour here but there are places in the Chamonix valley that look fairly benign and really are not. Particularly if the weather is mixed I'd be inclined to outsource decision making to a guide - either group or private booking.
My experience of Cham collective groups put together by the guides office is pretty positive. The standard varies but they police it. Mild risk of fat Barry but also (from personal experience), fat Lars and fat Ludmilla also.
Standard of guiding can be high. I had a morning years ago chasing a guy that I'm pretty sure was a very young Vivien Bruchez. Probably should have paid more attention to his technique pointers. Positive experiences of Chamex as a guiding outfit also.
Hello euro mags. I am considering having a mid life crisis and doing next winter in Eurp (edit to add: I'm not even tired to Eurp, just somewhere not America). Now this may end up being its own thread (please advise if this is needed), but I am in my preliminary planning stages and have a question:
Where?
The only places that spring to mind are Cham, Andermatte(sp?) and Zermatt. Besides those names I know approximately zero about the Euro ski scene. I have no ties to any particular place, but consistent good snow, terrain that is exciting, and some English speakers so I don't spend a whole winter talking to myself would be nice.
Currently not even sure what else to ask, so fire away.
