The Star was skiing surprisingly great today.
Talkin’ bluebird spring skiing in the middle of winter, which is cool on the one hand, but alarmingly disturbing on the other.
Lines were down from Sunday’s mob show and the snow was chalky goodness.
Lottsa crushable lumpy bumps (moguls) on many runs, as well as plenty o’ packed pow. Plus when you toss in manzanita bush slalom action it just added up to fun skiing overall.
Had several laps where me and my crew of four 8-10 y/o’s were the only ones on the run.

So if parking is sold out it doesn't tell you, it just shows paid parking as an option. ...Ahh, am i too early. Noon and 7pm it opens. This is definitely annoying.

cmon, you've been around long enough to know that Junuary is a longstanding tradition. Nothing to be alarmed about. (Yeah, right)

    Tahoe mags,

I'm planning a weekend trip to ride palidows in early March. Came late April last year and stayed at granlibakken but we had 4, just me and the cousin this time.

Is park and ride TART service to Palisades a functional option if we lose the alterra mega millions parking res lottery? We are not super pressed, my cousin is intermediate and solving the mountain on a pow day is not important on this trip.

Are there any motels I should avoid on the north side?

This is my favorite because of the techie-ness shown in the skiing.

Sunnyside then take the Sherwood shuttle from there. Assuming they run it this year. Assuming they get Sherwood open this year.

I haven't actually used the bus in years, but if the weather is good it should work fine. If it is snowing, the bus may or may not show up at some point. Whether using bus or car, go early. If you set an alarm for when the reservations for that weekend open, you'll probably get it, but beware you will need to have a crystal ball to figure out if you will want to be at Alpine or OV, and weather could impact one side more than the other.

Skipped Sat/Sun - didn't have a choice as my oldest sprained his ankle during a HS basketball game on Friday night, BUT the younger kids and I rallied up Sunday night to ski Monday.

I had a blast. Perfect weather, mountain getting filled in, and finally taking laps around KT & Red Dog in my usual haunts. I skipped Granite to get more skiing in and that plan definitely worked for the best. Did one reverse traverse into the Slot down into CII bowl in mostly wintery/firmish snow and then lapped every known area off KT. From the Nose, Chute75, Alternate 1 to the last one near Fingers, Oly Lady zone, Three Trees, side of McConkeys...it was a breath of fresh air to be able to explore again. Highlight for me was heading up Red Dog just for kicks around 11:30am to see if any new terrain opened up. I was shocked to see the Poulsens/Red Dog steeps and spines open (entrance from Far East side) with literally two tracks. The snow was surprisingly light given the wet snow on Sunday but that snow also really filled it in and adhered propertly. 3 laps later it was back to KT until Mighty Mites pickup and my legs are feeling it!

We have the Far West U16 Wild West Qualifier ski races this weekend at Palisades and BA is saying there will be a mix of rain and snow all weekend long under 7000' due to the warm nature of the storm. Sounds just lovely.

Trash bag weekend for those standing around while kiddos race.

My thing #1 was bummed to read that crows nest opened yesterday as he and I were driving back to his dorms for the new semester.

I think I've skied more corn in January than in the spring over the years.

Dude, that was embarrassing. Not sure exactly what happened there but I went back and deleted my “duplicate” posts so I didn’t clog up the thread.

I blame it on the new, high end cartridge I got for my vape pen. Shit is really strong, almost to strong. It claims to have a 95% THC content!
A little definitely goes a long ways.

Wish I had known it was another mag on the alternate timing/schedule, we were on Shirley watching you all ski and i'd imagine vice versa for you all. I'm the tracks going skiers left to right here and my buddy was the guy that did the full double eject tommy off that same hit.

This is such a rad plan. Fingers crossed for Sherwood and some snow. Never stayed at Sunnyside, but always wanted to.

Definitely a plus of the B2B, unless it's a storm/pow day you really don't need to decide. Park at whichever has availability and go where you want. Watch out for gondola closures, though. When it gets windy I get back to wherever my car is parked as quickly as possible. I haven't had to take the shuttle yet.

It made for really good skiing on Monday. I'm not sure how the snow was as good as it was in the Sisters and over into Silverbelt. Unexpected to say the least. I had my six year old with me. His stoke was intoxicating. I can pretty much take him anywhere with me as long as I'm under him playing catcher he'll pretty much ski anything. My ten year old bailed and did laps with his buddies on the Freeride team. My days skiing with him are numbered.

Does anybody know why KT wasn't spinning today?

I assume they lost the ability to maintain the road after yesterday's rain.

If it's done for awhile, I’m glad I got a bunch of laps yesterday... 11-2 was the best skiing I’ve had all year.
    Still waiting...

I heard it was too icy today. Wonder if the upper mt got snow? Agree, KT was great yesterday afternoon. 75 to lower 3 alternate/lower nose chutes were great.

Word on the street was KT was too icy. Uppermountain closed above the funi, I did get off piste to the right below hogs back. Rained at least that high. 1/2" zipper crust. Wind blowing around made for highly variable conditions between funi and bottom of headwall.

Resort chair had some nice turns up high, mostly breakable crust with pow under, but some nice deposits. Mid slope off piste was chopped up and skiing well. Best run was hike up from Heidi's and down red dog ridge, could actually link up some pow turns, down lower it was coral reef tho. Didn't see any closed signs, so I guess that meant KT was open for hiking lol.

North Lake / Truckee mags, who do y'all use for dog boarding when you go away on trips? We're going to be taking our first extended trip away without the pup and are looking for recs.
