Long haul = anything over 45 minutes btw

Maybe to you, but I am thinking 10 hours+. Riser that is 16 hours round trip. Pretty sure I have seen that for $1,600 r/t in business class.
Most airlines consider 6 hours and more to be long haul
You mean like this?

Depending on the plane, I'm capable of literally walking over the armrests and accessing the aisle without waking up the the middle/aisle pax. I'm glued to the window... have been since I was a 4 year old lookin for carebear land in the clouds.

Once you get closer to 8+ hours, I want a lie flat seat to try and get some sleep in as that really helps and I am not sleeping sitting up.
Riser, the below is this year so you can see the Christmas markets of Yurp. Go next March thru April and it is cheaper.

Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.
Lie flats during red eyes over the Atlantic/Pacific means you can hit the ground running on day #1 instead of feeling like a bag of shit. So in essence you can shorten your trip costs by a day.
And now you clearly know I don't care what the industry thinks. Bmac gets it.

What site is that? Kayak is giving me $1850 pp for JetBlue ticketing Icelandic air changing planes in Reykjavik with a layover that; s shorter than I like. Everything else is more like $2800. While sleep is a bonus, I'want the wider seats. For that price I could buy three economy seats for the two of us and still be ahead. That's a whole other can of worms. At a minimum it requires paying for seat choice to get three in a row.
Not denying it’s possible - just curious about the procedure - how does one book an extra seat on a flight? I can understand that the airline might like it (they get their money but don’t have to carry a passenger) - but if you used someone else’s name how do you check that person in so that the seat isn’t later filled by a stand by passenger
Do you get extra luggage capacity for this as well?
Riser, I just did a quick Google search and then clicked a couple of the Business class specialists for a quote. I also use Google Flights to search with no dates put in so I see the fare calendar. Flying LAX to Helsinki (2 day layover) and then on to Frankfurt for $2,600 each next April. I love flying Finnair so happy with the deal.

Well we are retired, no kids or bills, so that helps a bunch. You'll get there.

I mean, I was just kidding about the long haul being anything 45 minutes+

After dealing with crazy security at SEA on the outbound leg, SLC said "Hold my (root) beer!". Luckily TSA was reasonably quick, but the line for regular security came out and wrapped the full distance of the baggage claim area. I heard a worker say that they had 25% more passengers than a typical Sunday. Wonder if it was due to eclipse? How does an airport not plan for that increase?![]()
I just got tsa precheck included with my Global entry approval.
I only fly a few times a year and rarely have a long slow line. Sometimes precheck lines look longer.
Stoked to not take my shoes off. That's so dumb. One fucking schmuck with a lighter and everyone has to deal for decades.
I've never flown to Europe from Boston and not been able to get a full middle row to myself. You do have to spread out and move quickly because others have the same idea. I did have to go to Switzerland via Philly once and it was packed and gross not a single seat open. They do make it uncomfortable to lay across 4 seats intentionally so people pay up for first class but its still sleepable. Can't sleep on the 3 seat domestic full rows I'm too big.

Got to spend five days in New Orleans last week for a conference and some tourist time. Can't speak to the Delta lounge, but yes, the airport is very nice. And the people in New Orleans were about the friendliest I have encountered anywhere. Maybe just got lucky but I had a lot of interactions over the course of my visit and it really made an impression. I guess I'm not used to "Southern Hospitality."
