I peddled downtown to fish the small fish hot spot, and in addition to seven small rainbows, I caught a whitefish on a BWO spinner, and a brown, which sadly, is the biggest fish I've caught there.

There were a bunch of folks out fishing when I got to my target location, but after it started raining, they all left, and i happily had the river to myself. The fish were not very active today, and aside from a miniscule trout, which took a BWO spinner, I had to resort to hopper droppering an olive flashback midge nymph off a black and purple chubby, which teased the biggest rise of the day, fruitlessly. The nymph lured two whitefish, which were stubbornly resistant to having the hook removed, in spite of the barb being smashed by my Dr. Slick barb clamp, which I found on my recent camping trip to big cutthroat creek (they were a nice replacement for my previous rainbowy-adonized forceps, which I also found out at big cutthroat creek, and which I lost just like the previous owners had. Anyway, the white fishes freak when you get the forceps near their mouths, stupid-irrationally-afraid(given the reality of my my caring nature)-tiny-mouthed-native-species-but-somehow-not-as-satisfying-to-catch whitefish! Couldn't you tell I was trying to set you free!

The fishing was slow, but it was a pretty day on the river, with various weather types passing through.

I caught a couple trout, and another whitefish, but didn't feel like pulling the camera out for them. I did however, find the sun, on the water of the confluence, to be worthy of photography.

Try a topwater, walk the dog type bait. Zara Spook Jr in bone is my go-to. Speck's blowing up topwater baits is a pretty good time.

Skistack - sweet spec there. My son does a lot of top water with them, a blast for sure. Season is just starting here in VA.

Yesterday's was a dual mission - toss a couple lines and work on this guy's tan.

MMMMM there is nothing like a striped bass attacking a Spook on lake powell on a glassy morning.

I don't know what the difference was today, but the fish were biting, and I caught 14 of them. Five trout, and nine whitefish, the latter of which have earned my respect. I caught seven of them in about 45 minutes, all in a small area, low in the confluence. It was like crappie fishing. One of them was large, about 15".

I caught two nice rainbows today, both took an olive zebra midge nymph, which took the majority of the fish landed.

Man, I check into this thread because you guys post the most scenic landscapes. Special shout out to Swimmy. Maybe one day I’ll be zen enough to fish too.
