Guy with full on DH gear, on a shuttle-able but two way traffic trail in Breck yelling at my buddy for not yielding to him charging down the trail. "I've lived here 4 years and the rule is uphill traffic always yields to downhill". Wait what? I think you gots that backwards sir.

I love this attitude, and it's expanding more and more

Thinking through uphill traffic must yield: this means as you are riding/walking uphill, you must constantly be scanning the trail for any movement and if there is movement, you must then jump out of the way because that movement has the right to run you over regardless of the situation you are in.

It's ridiculous and an incredibly selfish point of view.

It is confusing terminology. Some may interpret uphill meaning the person higher up has right of way instead of the person biking up has right of way.

There's multiple signs on this trail with words AND diagrams, Haha. If you've been biking any amount of time, I feel like you'd have to be pretty oblivious to not know this stuff.

the term(s) used should be ascending and descending except no one knows what ascending means

Skiing a couple years ago I saw a kid get destroyed by a middle aged female gaper. Dad runs up the hill to help his kid and is yelling at the lady, lady’s arguing back trying to defend herself.

Dad says “the downhill skier has the fucking right of way!”

Lady responds: “I’m a downhill skier too!”.

Some people don’t know when to shut up and take the L.

Reminds me of an interaction with an IKON lady on a ski traverse earlier this year, right out of Gate #2 from the JP lift at Snowbasin. She was texting someone. I asked her to move because it is the WORST possible place to stop if you are a snowboarder traversing out and trying to keep speed. And my wife on a snowboarder was right behind me.

She got huffy and said "I got separated from my partner!". So you have to stop everyone to text him on a busy traverse or you'll die? I told her I didn't care and she needs to move now - but I should said "Follow the traverse and you'll find him waiting, dumbass".

How hard is it say 'whoops, sorry' and step uphill?

Around here the signs show bikes yield to hikers who yield to horses. That said, when I'm hiking I yield to the bikes, just seems easier and safer. But I have to get off the trail well in advance because the descendiung bikers around here do yield to ascending hikers when they have the chance.

Biking on the mixed used paved trail along the Truckee river. There are frequent signs painted on the pavement--Ride this side on the right, walk this side on the left. Couple of women walking on the wrong side, I had to wait to pass them because blind turn. I told them they were on the wrong side. "But the sign said to walk on this side" "Uh, did you notice that the sign you were looking at was upside down?"

Speaking on Californian touristas, they were so thankful when I road down and unlatched the chain to open the cattle gate they were going climb over.

Then, rather than having to hike the extra 3/4 mile to the trailhead to hike, they decided to drive.

For others wondering how to latch and unlatch cattle gates, here are some instructive videos. The 2nd is great!

Given that cows are stupid enough to be fooled by painted fake cattle guards, why do ranches need gates?

I would imagine painting a fake cattle guard on a dirt road is a fairly short term solution.

Alternative A--pave a short section. Cheaper than gate.
Alternative B--create a fake cattle guard with black and white rows of stones cemented in place. Call it land art. Charge admission. Profit.

Yeah; if you're going to the trouble and expense of paving, just put in a real cattle guard.

Like, not even close. Especially out on unnamed ranch road that's 80 miles from the nearest hot plant.
