Any thoughts? Any other info I can provide to help troubleshoot? Weber said a new $100 manifold would fix it but the grill is old and I'd rather not put that much money into it.
Weber customer service is legendary. Send them an email and let the pros take it from there.

I called Weber and the older Spirit line only has/had a two-year warranty on the manifold so they offered a discount off the full-price, but as I've been discovering when attempting to clean the grill, there are other parts threatening to succumb to rust and old age and most of those are out of warranty now as well. I will replace if need be, and most likely with a Weber, but I'll choose from one of the models with a better warranty.

I have a Weber and have replaced most of the parts over the 15 years I've had it. Very easy to fix and most parts have been pretty cheap. Much cheaper than buying a new one. Especially when I got it for free the first time.

I would watch this, take the valves off at the manifold and clean/lubricate. It's all the same principal. You might just have a valve that just isn't seating right causing a gas leak.

I've watched that video a couple times actually. Have tried cleaning and greasing the valve, have tried cleaning and not greasing, have tried cleaning and greasing and then making a gasket of sorts with some bicycle inner tube scraps... Nothing stops the leak. I did try swapping the regulator on the tank today with one I had from a propane fire pit, and if I open the tank valve very slowly and minimally, let the tubes pressurize a bit, then I am able to light the grill without it going into bypass mode. BUT even when I am able to do this, the valves leak slightly (determined with soapy water). So the original regulator may be part of the problem, but not all of it, and it is still possible to send it into bypass mode with this other regulator when following a fairly normal lighting procedure. To be fair I haven't tried every possible variation on gas flow rates, timing, etc but I used to just be able to open the tank, turn the control knob and light the grill without being some kind of sorcerer.

FWIW, I've had to replace the regulator on my 20 year old Genesis every few years. I think they're just shit. The rest of the grill still works great. I think I'm on my third set of flavorizer bars and second set of grates. We refurbished our deck last year and took the grill off in pieces. I pressure washed the entire thing and re assembled it. It's never worked better.

Oh my. Looks like if you just pulled on one of those rib bones it would just slide out clean.

Do you see bubbles where the valve body is screwed down to the manifold ? It that is where the leak is I would try some pipe sealant where the two pieces mate and is screwed down. They sell it in plumbing section next to the Teflon tape.

Yeah, thats where the bubbles are. For the heck of it I tried just using Teflon tape and at least in a short test, that seems to have stopped the leak. The original regulator still goes into bypass even without the leak (so maybe it always leaked and I never knew?) but the other one I tried seems to work normally. Gonna grab a fresh regulator and hopefully that's the end of it for now. Thanks all!

That is just beautiful, i am sure it tasted equally so.

Teflon tape will seal up minor leaks but in reality it was created to function as anti seize between threaded parts.

    This.

Guess I coulda gave my $.02 earlier, but I swear Ice just posted the exact scenario somewhere.

I have had my Genesis 3 for about 18 years. I think I've replace the burners twice. Regulator 3 times. Flavor bars maybe 4 times. I wouldn't buy a new one unless the actual body started to fail.

    Yes

I’ve given up and just wrap my butts when they hit the stall. The bark suffers, they hit their finished temp WAY faster. It’s way better than figuring out plan b at the last minute with 5 hangry people. My longest non-wrap butt took 22 hrs to hit 203. I was the only one to enjoy it while it was hot cuz everybody had already been in bed for hours. We bbq a butt about once a month.

Got two racks of spare ribs to smoke sometime this weekend. Yum!

I placed mine in the smoker about 10 PM last night and it was done at 2:15. Traeger set to 225. I let it sit for an hour before shredding. I shredded only what we needed and will have leftovers

Is it too late to coat that pineapple with a spicy honey?

    It is now.
To me it’s great like it is - the roasting takes out the acidity. Eat plain, add to salsa, pork and slaws.

Can always brush with a (spiced) honey-lime glaze once it’s off the grill, and the slices are skinned and cored. Or pour the glaze over a ring laid on top of ice cream
