I can feel the thin shot hand jolt, and that accompanying sinking feeling, as said thin shot plugs in the steep face of a front bunker

I joined a club. Once you’ve had the freedom and flexibility of a private course it’s hard to go back. I typically spend 2 hours practicing and walk nine holes. It’s been so long since I was a regular player I have to relearn proper ball striking. One of the chipping greens. Click image for larger version.

Course was redesigned by RTJ in 2018. The greens are superb. It’s very tough to get a ball close without hitting the right part of the green.

Skip Royal and head down to Wailea and play the gold or emerald course. I spend a lot of time out there so trust me on this. Actually heading back in June.

Your probably right but playing Royal for old time sakes. Emerald was super fun last time I played it.

This course really has some special shots you could spend the entire round behind your phone.

Nice shots , that 18th has always been so intriguing to me, first and foremost the little city they build down there for the tourney. But the 2 sweeping shots they play in there is always something to watch…

I had a really, really good day.
Been trying to break 40, but didn’t expect to shoot even par.
Back 9, I didn’t have glue to hold it together.
Regardless, I am over the moon.

Maybe skip the double vodka and beer chaser at the turn next time

Nice card and congrats on the front 9. Did it seem "easy"?

Everything was so easy front 9.
    Nothing could go wrong.

    Thing was.
I went out by myself and paired with father with two adult sons.
So instead of normal socializing, I could really focus on my each shot.
Having par, par on the first two holes, my playing partners were too intimidated to talk to me.
I was left alone to focus and play my own game.

    Then the 10th came along.
I got shot into twice on the same hole by the group behind.
First time was their tee shot and I didn’t make a big deal because we all hit accidental good tee shot.
Then as I was standing on the green, second shot fired into my foot without “Fore!”.
I lost my shit and charged into these twosome behind us.
I scared them and my playing partners.
    Ruined 10th, 11th and 12th.
Tried to regain 13th and 14th but the magic was gone.

I’m just happy what I had.

Sounds to me you handled 10 well. On a 2nd infraction I've yelled back, stomped the ball into the turf, thrown the ball into the rough depending on the situation.

    Nice job!

Sorry the back 9 incident got the best of you.

What was the movie quote Rahm referenced after masters win, memory of a goldfish? A lot easier said then done especially when you’re getting hit into! Golf , the ultimate test!

Really impressive to see how far you’ve come in so little time. You should be very proud of this.

    Thank you, Aldo!

    I really, really love golf.
I wish I didn't wait so long to start.
But I'm fully enjoying my journey chasing a little white ball.

The mental game is the toughest part about golf. Well, that, and joint pain.

If you’ve shot 37 once, you can do it again! Congrats, and have fun on your journey!

Sounds like you’re ready to play some tournament golf. As Bobby Jones said, there’s golf and there’s tournament golf, they are not the same.

Actually I have my very first real tournament scheduled on May 24th!
“25th MGA/WMGA Women’s Public Links Championship” at Sterling Farms Golf Course.
I might be the oldest among ex college golfers and highest handicapper but I’ll get to taste a little bit of real competition.
    Very excited about it!

Starting to pickup the clubs again after a 15-ish year hiatus. What have I missed in golf technique and tech? Fat clubs? Rocker?

My old man and I are going on his bucket list trip next May. A week in Scotland playing quality courses (Carnoustie, Balcomie @ Crail, Kingsbarn, Old Course, New Course).

In middle/high school I played ~100 rounds a year and carried a 5-7 handicap. Then went to college/grad school, had no money or car and fell out of the game. Have played maybe 10 rounds in the last 10 years and haven't really followed the sport.

Seems like I'm probably overdue for a few upgrades in the bag. Currently in the bag are AP2s (P-3) which I seem to hit OK, Taylor Supersteel Driver and 3 wood (with stiff steel shafts cause I use to be a wildman), a gap and sand wedge from Cleveland, and some cheap-ass putter (think my mother stole my Payne Stuart style SeeMore and I never got it back). Seems like worthwhile to purchase a few used woods a generation or two old to start?

Luckily it’s a 5 min ride to the local course for evening short game work. A new shag bag just arrived.

What I did to upgrade last year. 10 year old new to me Ping G25 driver . Irons depend on what condition yours are in. I was lucky to find almost new System3000 forged blade Mizuno knock offs to replace my worn out 25 yo set of the same club. Get whatever putter suits your eye. A putter is as good as you believe it is.

As for technique, I’ve been trying to re-find my swing after a long hiatus, only to discover how badly I sucked at it to begin with.

Adam Porzak is a golf instructor from San Diego who has a ton of videos on YouTube that have completely changed my concept of the swing. I was all into swaying and sliding, and his thing is setup, connection, and rotation. It’s helped me quite a bit, although I’m still not all that good at it yet.

Thanks for the reference. I basically learned watchhing the golf channel for hours as a youngster.

Luckily once upon a time I had a swing and was a good ball striker. Spend hours on the range trying to emulate Ernie Els and Freddie Couples. Now to refind it.
