Then instead of moving down the list to someone who would have qualified the FWT gave someone a wildcard.

Thing #2 said he was a nice enough guy, but it seemed like he strutted around with a big posse kinda doing the 'do you know who I am' thing. Meh.

He's a home town hero in your neck of the woods no?

If that's the case with his ego it will be interesting to see how he ages and has to start to let go of his KOM status. That jumping right into a tree could be the start of his decline. It looked sort of like a "senior moment" to me.

Rewatched the men's ski and I'm going to go ahead and throw this out there; the Ozone at Kicking Horse is actually a good venue. The venue promotes fall line skiing. Dudes were charging.

And after watching the last few events I'll take back a little bit about supporting the freestyle crossover influence because damn, some of those high speed, fall line runs were a whole lot more fun to watch honestly. I like the idea of the kids bringing in new eyes and styles but the reality of viewing the events is a different thing.

He grew up around here, and his mom still lives nearby, but it doesn't seem like he spends a ton of time up this way. He has a cabin out of town, and I think he maybe keeps a low-ish profile when he's there. But every once in a while he'll roll through the local ski hill. And yeah, more or less like Oft described - big posse, and definitely a bit of "do you know who I am" vibe (although generally pretty friendly). Also bumped into him in Haines AK once. It was when the FWT was in town, but he was just filming (as were a ton of other notables). He swaggered into the bar with that same "do you know who I am" thing, which was kinda funny since about 50% of the people in the bar were similarly badass skiers / boarders.

Regardless, I don't have anything against the guy. Great skier. Maybe more cut out for film parts than FWT comp runs though.

I was in Haines during that time as well and got the same vibe. Seemed aight if a bit full of himself. I was there to represent the other 50%.

I used to see TH around Truckee all the time when he was living at the trailer park off 89 (the highway that leads to Squawlpine) and dating Kirsten P (her grandfather opened Squaw back in the day). Always very friendly. Keep in mind that he's basically a child star kind of like the ski version of being one of the Corey's in the late 80's / early 90's. It's just a different reality.

^^^^In a former life I worked with a lot of famous people who had been huge stars - surrounded by sycophants and staff - since they were very, very young. Most of them have no idea how to go about an ordinary day-to-day life.

Unforgivable overuse of drone footage during the live run made it almost unwatchable. Merry-go-round drone shots also need to die period.

This. Drone acrobatics has me not watching these anymore. I want to watch skiing. Not get dizzy.

That's unbeleivable! Seriously unwatchable. I can't believe someone thought the spinning drone was a good idea.

Yeah that drone stuff was unwatchable.

I like a pulled back steady drone angle, but the spinning drone angle is total trash.

It's like that Cascadia movie a few years ago. Great skiing ruined by that swirling around BS. Drones are awesome but a lot of the operators need to stop and ask themselves just because I can does that mean I should? (It's like the Jurassic Park of ski media)

Hard to watch, but probably better for the athletes than the heli overhead that was ominpresent when Thing #2 was out there.

FWT would be a great subject subject for one of these sports docuseries like Drive to Survive, Make or Break, Full Swing, Break Point, etc…

    One can dream.

My take was that it was less of a creative decision and more just inexperienced pilots? Either way I agree, made it hard to watch and really interrupted the flow of each run as a whole

The clearly had other angles, maybe a heli? The drone missed the majority of Manu's crash, then the feed cut to a wider shot of him sitting below the rocks. Have to think that camera could have shown the whole thing much better...
