Buhh, the riders list is heavy.
Ofcourse the austrian veteran rookie is hot. Max hitzig is a winner!
But all the others can win too...

The last two weeks have been wintery around here. Around 150cm of snow fell, and it's been quite windy (first from the NW, then the NE). Due to snow compaction and aforementioned wind, snowpack is irregular in the alpine, but in general some 90cm thicker than it was. Luckily, Baciver had a base before this period. Less luckily, it's quite wind exposed to the northern half of the compass, which is what we've had (with gusts exceeding 100km/h last week at altitude).
So, yet again, I would have prefered the comp to take place on a different venue in the resort, less wind exposed, steeper and much longer. Oh well.
Back to conditions, it's been skiing great in sheltered places, and I've had a ton of fun the last couple of weeks. Check Txematrull's instagram for closeup pictures of the forerunners on the face. Snowing today and tomorrow, but windy again, so not sure how much of this low density fluff will stick.
Some pics from these weeks from our favorite lift:
And from Baciver:

Pnwlifer joined the tribe!
So just to clarify: is this the same face as last year? That one turned out to be pretty fun to watch despite being a bit on the short side IIRC.
I don’t understand the countdown clock.
With my math, and time zones, I predict the comp will start at 1pm local time.
That can’t be right.

Gaijin, you are in.
It us now 12:40 in innsbruck austria. And the countdown says 23h33min
More or less correct for central europe.

Downdays interview with nicolas hale woods. He must have had the questions before. All answers are well worked out...
Just at the end there is a ? He says FIS sanctioned the extreme in the beginning. What was that? And this helped them with organisation?
Doesnt make sense to me without explanation .
I hit Join on the League! Lets Go!!
People who live in Grass houses shouldn't get stoned ~Michner
After reading the interview, i wikied Gian Franco Casper. (Former FIS President)
OMG
I am still puzzeled and understand what an asshole Organisationen.
I am lucky, never had contact with this organisation.
Shane is future spinning.
Yeah, FIS sucks ass, which is why so many of us were skeptical / pessimistic when the acquisition was announced. Fingers crossed they fail to make Freeride an Olympic sport - it will ruin it.
Thanks, twat.
So is the light better in the afternoon there? Is it a West facing venue?
That seems like a late start. Interesting.

Cool. West facing makes more sense now. Thanks!
Just got done shoveling. Skied knee deep blower all day. Japan is nuts right now. The overall season feels 2-3 weeks ahead of schedule.
Nothing better than skiing and coming home to watch real people ski.

Ski girls were kind of sad.( I missed 5 of them so who knows) The only Real skiing came from the canadian girl who crashed after the backflip.
Winning run shouldnt be " yeah I could do that"
It's a war of the mind and we're armed to the teeth.
They did Maxime dirty with that 75
Oooohhh shit, ok the swedes just blew that out of the water
So many sharks.
Erickkson keeping it together on the 720!.
Leif Mumma .... charger!
Aymar stuck a line. Yay!

From the moment Chaboz dropped in, it was obvious that the guys are playing a completely different game. Such a consistently high standard. Great venue.
Bummer about all the (Turdell) sharks.
Flipping off wind lips to flat just doesn’t impress me.
Leif Mumma - impeccable technique and old school charging obviously not being rewarded.
Mandin - legs of steel, but overscored.
Hitzig - so smooth and stylish.
Moga - on the edge, insane.
Lots of incredible skiing, but to me there was no real standout. Rating any of the top 9 runs above or below any other seemed entirely arbitrary.
Commentary was spot on.

Really like Palms’ poppy style, especially that bounce turn landing in the coolie.
I don't know. Making freeride an olympic event pretty much forces the IOC to not take the Olympics to shithole despotic countries, barring Russia of course, and demands mountains with snow to keep it's legitimacy.
Now, we all know it's turning into a flippy spinny shitshow when the IOC gets involved, but that's been the evolution of the FWT for years now anyway, right?

Kind of a bummer with the conditions, but props to the riders for making it happen.
That front flip from the Spanish kid was bananas.
Nice to see Aymar put down a solid run in front of the home fans in his retirement comp.
I got a bit choked up listening to his interview after the event.
