Anyone else starting to turn their attention from ski season to boat season prep? Waiting for a string of warm days to tackle engine maintenance and bottom painting...

    Boat Porn!

Definitely getting psyched about getting back on the water, I've been up to see what has been done and what needs to be done a couple times now.

I went the route of getting the boat documented with the Coast Guard, it took a year t get the paperwork back from them but that's all set now and i never have to do that again and i don't have to have the state registration numbers on her so that's kinda nice. Tentative plan is get back in May 15.

Nice, just had to re-up my CG docs and took forever too. Lots of new covid captains, they must be backed up.

Just here to say I like the name Ice, but had I known the boat's name would be music related (I assume), I would have guessed Doolittle, Debaser, or This Monkey's Gone to Heaven.
I still call it The Jake.

    How much does documentation run?

I'm waiting for some warmer temps to tackle some fiberglass filling of screw holes in the deck, and some paint for the seat platform on the flying bridge. Full prices being crazy this year has me thinking seriously about how to get out there without going broke.

Befriend a sailor. I think we will be doing a lot more sailing this season ‘cause the wind is free. We’ve been doing a lot of power boating the last few seasons so the change will be nice.

Those would've been good choices for sure. But somehow we got on a Dead theme. Thought about Wharf Rat but nah.

I think I picked a good year to go back to my 13 Whaler for a bit. Time will tell.

Missing the island trips right about now, but lots of halfway decent rental places around here If we get the jones for some private beach time.

So what's the advantage of documentation? For some reason I thought it removed the necessity of yearly registration renewal.

Just got mine back with a 2027 expiration, so looks like it gets you 5 years or so. Ran $350 ish.

Going to do the same for the center console this Summer while it's in the water. Needs everything from new wiring, tail lights. hitch ball socket, fenders, tires, cable and winch, probably bearings, etc. How difficult was it to rehab the trailer and where did you find parts? Online?
    TIA

I'm still in the middle of the restoration, but so far I've sourced my parts off etrailer, Amazon, or my local trailer supply store. Main things I've done / will do:
    -Wire brush and repaint
    -Replace wiring and lights
-Convert from hydraulic surge (not working) to electric brakes
    -Replace coupler
-Replace bunk carpet and roller guides
    -Replace bushings in springs

Getting the rust and old paint off has been a real effort. I underestimated just how many faces have to be cleaned up, particularly when the trailer has a lot of C-channel. In hindsight I probably would have paid someone to sandblast it, but Im 95% done now so will just push through.

Some photos of the progress. Hoping to paint this weekend and then begin reassembly.Click image for larger version.

Wow, thanks for the detail. Not sure how big a job mine is until I get into it. Have the whole Summer to figure it out though.

Might belong in the rowing thread instead but my gf and I got a boat. It'll need work to clean it up and I might put fixed seats in to make packing camping stuff easier. Not really sure just yet. Name: signal-2022-04-04-19-24-30-000-1.jpeg
