4.83 for 91 ethanol free yesterday. It's kinda morally deflating to hypermile a supercharged motor but when you do hundreds of miles a day a few times a week it adds up. I'm up 2-3mpg over what I get when I don't pay attention to it and just drive.

It doesn't have a selectable "Prius" drive mode?

You daily drive a supercharged vehicle hundreds of miles? Ouch. Even prior to this run-up, ouch.

Maybe someone could do a REAL criminal investigation into how it is that every spring several California refineries just happen to be forced to shut down for maintenance/repairs simultaneously, and spring happens to be when California switches to a clean blend that is not readily available to source from out of state, so prices spike. Every. Fucking. Year!

If the car market wasn't such a disaster I'd have gotten something different recently. I also need a large vehicle to transport all of my work stuff so the only decent option is a minivan and those aren't exactly known as being overly efficient.

Minivans ain't cheap these days either. I feel your pain, man. We've been on this awful car journey together, limping along our old Euro cars along as long as possible.

People even been asking silly money for WRECKED car these days. It's downright depressing.

Couldn't you pull a little trailer full of bikes with a Prius? It's not going to be that heavy if they're good bikes right? I get that cars are super expensive now.. but think outside of the box for your pick up and delivery needs.

True but have you looked at Prius prices lately? I've been in the market for some time now and prices are even MORE whack these days.

Toyota is getting 36 mpg now. These gas prices mean my next Car will definitely either be a plug in hybrid or straight electric. More electric means fucking the gas companies.

*remembers he has PG&E for electric, doh!

Guess I better buy some more solar panels too.

How can you justify spending $10-30k to gain 15mpg? I drive about 30k/yr working so at my current, easy on the go pedal mpg that's 1700-1800 gallons. Bring that to 30mpg and it goes down to 1k gallons so at 4.50/ga it's 4500>8k so a $3500 difference so it's 3 years just to recoup the purchase price in fuel cost savings. Then there's the enclosed trailer cost, lower mpg due to towing, restricted road access due to towing adding miles and travel time (ie: more fuel), additional insurance, etc.

It doesn't make sense unless you're playing a long game and we're not. As electric really takes hold range, capacity, charger availability and vehicle costs will come into line so my hope is to be in an e-car of some sort within 3 or 4 years. If good used awd minivans were still $5-10k I'd certainly consider one but they're not anymore and new at 40-60k are off the table completely.

along the same lines there was a diesel shop on youtube where buddy broke down the cost and efficacy of various engine mods to improve milage, buddy pointed out your truck is gona get around 15 mpg any money you spend on mods would take many years to pay the mods off and the best way to save money ... slow down

RUG went up over 2$ a liter and has come back down by maybe 8 cents, I don't really sweat the price of fuel, the main thing is having a steady supply

I think the point some of us were making was to not have purchased a low mpg supercharged vehicle in the first place, not reacting to climbing gas prices by making a change.

For example, I spent $6k to buy a TDI a few years ago that was averaging close to 50 mpg highway.

Sucks an alternative approach won’t work for you.

Gas was at or below $3 when I got it and it was cheaper than most comparable rigs with the space I need. I'm not really complaining about what it cost me although it would be nice to save $.50\gal and be able to use 87 rather than 93.

Harley doesn't make electric bikes. They just slap a sticker that says Harley on it.

Among many other reasons to dislike Harley, they were partly responsible for the collapse of the best electric dirt bike company to date.

I don't know all the details, but Livewire is the brand and Harley owns a majority stake in them. I believe they only make one model.

Oh sunnuva. Those scumbags! Long ago, LucasArts' computer game, Full Throttle, predicted HD's future with "Corley Motors." Seems that prophecy has sadly been fulfilled.

    .
he only time people seem to pay attention is when fuel prices go up, very short attention spans

I did that whole calculation on a better quality cocktail napkin when I was a road warrior, I bought 2 TDi's claimed CCA, wrote off expenses yada yada

The TDi made $ sense when diesel was .12 cents a liter cheaper than RUG 20 yars ago but not really when diesel was the same or more
