Yup. I've always wanted one, but sadly that car never got hit by the typical BMW depreciation curve and they've always remained well out of reach for me. FML. Would love to get my hands on one someday.

This little V12 filly on the other hand just about tempted me this AM...

Especially since the coolant leak is pretty common on those and IF it's the typical cooling tube issue, would be something I could definitely fix on my own, but then I remembered the myriad of other issues plaguing the 760's and was instantly snapped back into reality. Another time perhaps. Another time.

Congratulations, you found the one vehicle less reliable than gravity's Rover.

We should start a new thread for Montucky to find him the least reliable money pit vehicle possible.

That BMW is a strong contender to start it off.

Haha. It should be rolling again in a few days so maybe I'll list while it's healthy and with shiny new bits under the hood.

Haha. True! Hence the hard pass after thinking about for longer than 30 seconds.

Yeah. After looking at beat up Mini Coopers and Fiats, what can I say? I'm a glutton for punishment. (watch me end up with a freaking Toyota Avalon or something else similarly boring and incredibly reliable)

Finally moved a bit on my search. Two cars in the running are the w211 e55, and a Cadillac CTS v sport. Not the V with the supercharged v8... The v-sport. Twin turbo 3.6l v6. Today I drove both. The v-sport was incredibly quick and responsive. It was tuned close to 500hp. Brakes were excellent, and the magnetic ride suspension was glorious. So smooth and supple, yet no body roll, and very responsive. But the transmission, left something to be desired. It just felt aggressive, always ready to jump down and take off, when I just wanted to tool around. Overall, the car was incredibly fast and capable, but didn't feel like a coherent package. I thought it was going to be the one for me. But it wasn't.
Coming from an e34 540i with a 6 speed manual, the e55 felt more at home. Lots of power, torque immediately when you put the right foot down. Brake feel is meh, as there is no direct connection to the brakes through the pedal. But the v8 felt like a v8, and think that is what I need. The ride was neither as smooth as the caddy, or as responsive, but it felt more relaxed. It did not handle as well as the caddy. But it was a nice coherent package that worked well together.
As a bonus, a nice e55 will cost a lot less than a CTS v-sport. V-sport was $30k with 70k miles. The e55 was $23k with 66k miles. I think those prices are fairly typical of what I can find right now.

These pics are the actual cars i drove. I prefer the looks of the e55, but the v-sport is a nice looking car as well.Click image for larger version.

I wouldn't want to drive it in salt country. It's too nice. And ya, if it was practical to go get it, it'd already be in my driveway.

salt vs mud season in vt? you can always wash of the salt, but that fuckin' rut is still gonna rip off your tie rods.... hmmm, do you like your misery to come at you all instantaneous like, or do you prefer slow drip of misery as your sweet ride slowly dissolves into a useless pile of rust.

a valid argument could be made for either scenario.

If youre lucky enough to have the proper coverage all you need to do is follow a orange dump truck spreading salt and voila! Instant hail damage.

Aaaaand it's gone. Wife surprisingly loved what she saw on the listing (color me surprised!) and gave me green light to scrounge together all the pennies we could, was not gonna low ball guy since I thought his price was really fair considering the pristine condition, went to call the dude and it's freaking sold already. I knew it was a good find. Didn't even last a day.

    Thread drift/rant…

Cracks me up. A buddy was bitching about gas prices when he drives a 5000 lb SUV to/from his $1.5M house and office/grocery store on flat land in Walnut Creek, CA.

Want the size and the power? Right on. It can be fun.

Bitch about the cost? Don’t be a bitch.

Ya, something like that probably could have sold without even being posted. To a regular in his shop.
