Funny - I had this exact conversation, except we were talking about competition moguls courses.
I figured it had to be some really exact layout, but this was still interesting.

"I was skiing on Wednesday and it was really cold out. The snow was soooo slow. I don't know what they changed - it used to be that snow was really fast when it was cold out."
They were running a HS GS race at Alpine today. Saw I kid in a race bib free skiing, making for slow cautious snowplow turns down a groomed blue run. I thought what a gaper. Then I thought harder--kid is out skiing while most of his classmates are in school. I guess I'm the gaper in this story.
Then there were the 4 people--50-60ish I think-- in the Summit 6 line who refused to let anyone get on the chair with them. They weren't masked and didn't seem to have any problem being close to other people in line, so I have to assume they were just asshole gapers.
As opposed to the other kind of gapers ?
Which FIS dork came up with the idea to require standardized, hand sculpted moguls for competitions? That dork is a gaper. It made mogul comps into the single most boring form of the sport.
Meh. I get it.
that’s a shit ton of work.
How can these amazing athletes do what they do without a somewhat consistent arena.
The kickers don’t just show up without a cat.
After the cat sets the two kickers, how do the moguls show up?
Kill all the telemarkers
But they’ll put us in jail if we kill all the telemarkers
Telemarketers! Kill the telemarketers!
Oh we can do that. We don’t even need a reason
So much to unpack here.
Apparently the weekend is still going or started early. Driving home, my Florida transplant buddy calls to ask "if I have a rope". Then these nice 2 ladies offered up that "we just dont know what went wrong, we have a Jeep....".
Said Jeep with bald tires on a non-maintained road with a tow hook surrounded by a plastic bumper. If only there was a large yellow sign informing that this was a poor decision.
Tow Strap FTW & thankfully these 2 ladies contributed to our local economy by dining at the Pizza joint prior to their attempt to drive up the mountain to the Long Trail.
Speaking of signs--Alterra's corporate speak at Palisades.
Examples--"Firm conditions exist" and "lower restraining device". What's wrong with "Hard snow" and "Lower bar"? To be fair, other signs are in simple English. Which is good, because there are a lot of snowboarders at Palisades. (Sorry, couldn't help myself.)
At least they aren’t calling it packed powder lol
My home mountain has had signs saying:
"Heinous conditions exist in Xxxxx bowl"
"Upper mountain visibility = Willie Nelson concert"
And other similar signage.

Well, we've had a few fatalities and severe injuries around these parts over the last few weeks. That sign is right when you get off KT-22 but basically all of the runs on the west face are closed because patrol was tired of picking up body parts. I'm sure they put it up not the lawyers - it can start to be traumatizing dealing with carnage on a daily basis. But people will find a way - on Monday there was a bad compound leg fracture (and blood trail) at the bottom of Granite Chief and they had to fly him out of there.
Yeah, I get it. We've had multiple fatalities and grizzly injuries in the Wasatch recently due to the same conditions. Apparently a guy fell off the cirque traverse at Snowbird onto some rocks last week and broke both femurs. Extricating him from that spot with those injuries must have been a hell of an ordeal.
It's pretty normal where I ski that they post a sign when there are slid-for-life conditions. If you have ever experienced a slide-for-life you won't really think it's gaper at all that there is a warning, shit's scary.
Icy patches would imply that some patches aren't, so that's probably less icy than "packed frozen granular".
