Appreciate the offer but the kit I bought for the zed has multiple heights that come with it and I'll try those first.

Someone help me get this straight: the ATK spacer is a type of sliding AFD, but the G3 stomp pad is just a static low friction plastic? I'm actually surprised G3 can use that without messing up release certifications or whatever it's called.

I've run a race style Plum heel with a super low stack height on 110mm+ skis for years and there is definitely that floaty feel in the heel. I'd love to try a heel spacer, but it would probably need to be DIY since the gap between my boot sole and the ski is seriously small....

And maybe that's why they spec it that your heel shouldn't be touching the pad?

Maybe I’m out in left field on this, but my logic on the non sliding simple stomp pad is that tech bindings are sketch as hell anyways when it comes to release. Add to that my almost always locked out toes and I’ve negated any safety features. That said, a sliding afd on the pad I’m sure would help.

That must be it. Perhaps since some of the Zed bindings had breakage problems on big impacts, it must be there to add support on compressions big enough to make the boot touch it. Does anyone know if the ATK spacer is also designed to have a small gap between it and the boot?

The pad itself is an old look riser plate that was sanded down to get the right height. These are mounted on my rock set-up so they get lots of jolts/ hits....

Saw your little pads in another thread and went with it. Thanks for the idea! $18 worth of HDPE plastic scraps off eBay. A little cutting and sanding, done! I’ve got enough plastic to do years worth of pads! Work great!

That's a heavy setup to climb with! But I bet it's fun as hell.

And HDPE is probably better at not inhibiting release like the G3 risers which seem to be made of a less slippy plastic... nice.

Great early season ski- keeps u a float when there is no snow....weight is not an issue when your looking for downhill performance.

I’ve got a selection of cutlery for later season meals depending what’s on the dinner table.

I’ve got quit a few other legit set-ups.

The ATK spacers are designed with a sliding afd and are meant to be in contact with the boot the whole time. Stomp pads on the zed are supposed to have a gap and are designed for support as the ski flexes, they are doing two different things, and I am sure the feel between the two while used according to spec is going to be very noticeable.

But I am sure the stomp pad is going to be way better than just floating on the pins, which is jarring as hell and fatiguing AF when things get roughed up even in chop. Forget it on hard packed or firm conditions

Can anyone explain how this doesn't affect lateral release?

The actual ATK spacer has a sliding AFD built in.

i've seen a couple photos of the Universal spacer being mounted on MTN/backlands.

Just bought the spacer but i am not sure how i should manage the binding's own stomp pad. One of my best friends/mentors swears by hacking off the stomp pad itself and simply mounting the spacer in that area. However I feel like once I do that I have to raise the whole platform of the binding of a couple mm (he did that by layering a small strip of polypropilene underneath the heelpiece). Has anyone ever screwed the spacer "into" the stomp-pad? Seems like bit of a more hassle-free solution
